Can you recommend me a decent MMORPG?

What I am interested in is a MMORPG that:

1. Has an english client - the most important.

2. Doesn't have lock on abilities and attacks.

3. Doesn't have cheap skimpy pantsu armor spam or armor that makes you look as if you had a metric ton of steel on your shoulders.

4. Has good, kung fu movie-esque mobility. Dragon Sword Online is a good example, but it seems there was no big news since 2013.

5. Has good PvP. I sometimes just wanna whack somebody down and call it a day.

6. Doesn't have cartoon-ish, anime-ish graphics.

7. Good questing.

8. F2P - I'm poor soul :|

9. Does have DMC 3 Virgil similator aka Katana - not mandatory, buuuuut if it's there it's sold.

Last MMO I played was Tera, but dropped it a long time ago.

Every nice MMORPG I eyeballed in the interwebz was Korean open beta at best with release later this year or god knows when.

http://www.dfoneople.com/I was gonna recommend Dungeon Fighter Online Global but half your requirements aren't there. It's free to play but it has 2D sprites like the arcade and 16-bit side scrolling beat 'em ups. There is PvP but it isn't available til lvl35.

If not DFOG I recommend Path of Exile. Awesome game and it happens to be much better then D3. There are 7 classes but you aren't restricted to certain skills, armor and more. Any class can be any build, just certain classes are more suited to certain builds then others.

You could try Fable 3, I didn't play it but I saw the trailer and it looked awesome.

That's an option, but I asked about MMORPG. Fable 3 isn't a MMO, no?

No all things I listed must be included, because I don't think it's realistically possible. For example #4, #5 and #9, if those are in the game then great, if not I can live with it.

Path of Exile, I guess I'll give it a shot, not really a fan of firework-ish AoE skills that take up a whole screen, though. What about leveling? Is it relatively fast or will it take me a year or two to get max level?

Once you hit lvl80 (especially 85+) XP becomes extremely slow. If you play good, can make lvl60+ in under 20 hours (the good players who've been around for years can do that in under 14 hours). The game has 3 difficulties and 3 Acts (Act 4 is finally gonna be added sometime in June). You'll hit Cruel difficulty around lvl40 and you lose 5% xp towards the next lvl each death. Merciless difficulty starts around lvl55 and you lose 10% xp per death. Not all skills fill up the whole screen. There are literally hundreds of builds to choose from. You need to plan each build cause PoE has a massive 1350 point skill tree and don't plan any getting more then about 108. My favorite build so far is centered around Righteous Fire. Skill burns away 90% of your HP per second but does damage = to 50% of your HP (plus added damage from passive and skill gems for increased fire and burning damage. To run RF you have to stack alot of HP regen plus run an aura that raises your fire resist. Skills are based around socketing skill gems into gear. You enhance or change skills by linking them with support gems.

Endgame starts around lvl65 and uses maps that drop from mobs. It uses exsting areas but randomized, plsu you can craft mods onto maps like increased enemy HP, increased mob horde size, increase attack and casting speed. Harder mods means more XP from map clears.

Well, I started playing Path of Exile yesterday,  I'm currently level 21 aaaaand I'm not amused so far.

I picked Shadow. So far game revolves around me holding down Molten Strike button - which isn't even my class' specialization - whenever there is more than 2 dudes and single target nuke when fighting something tougher + a mobility skill. For 21 levels straight. I used only 3 buttons.

My sense of duty compels me to play to at least that 35th level to see how PvP looks (Although I saw PvP option in 2nd village, so I don't know), but I don't think this game will stay for long on my PC.

The only thing I like is how the game handles currency. But that's it, so far.

Sad to hear that. Currently working on getting my RF toon to lvl89 plus about 5 other builds I have in progress.

I am not sure if you would like this, but I would like to recommend The Secret World. It's a free 2 play game. Although it has some lock on abilities and attacks, you will most of the time fight small groups of mobs. The game is much about combining skills to create deadly combos, but focus also on mobility. Like TERA.

You do not level up, as in traditional MMO's. But instead every time you "level up" you will receive Ability Points and Skill Points (I think, can't remember now) but the level process itself is not tied to fill an XP bar and level up at the end of it, over and over again (like WoW, Rift etc etc) instead you have these "mile stones" or markers on your XP bar, and every time you pass one of these markers, you will receive one ability point. So that means, before you actually "level up" (as in XP bar resets) you may receive 5-6 abillity points. But there are no levels at all. But the similar mechanic is still there. So that means, you might complete 2 quests, and fill the XP bar up to 25%, and still receive points.

Weapon wise, you have pistols, shotguns, rifles, swords, axes, fist weapons, magic and later on, you will even get rocket launches, chainsaw etc etc.

So, the mechanics works like this. You can carry 2 types of weapons (3 later on) and you use builders that will fill a meter for each weapon. And after, that you use a finisher.

So that means, (example) you use your pistols, to build up your meters, than you use the finisher for that weapon, but since you also have a secondary weapon, you can also use that weapons finisher as well. (pistol x 5 = Finisher + Shotgun Finisher)

There is no re-spec in this game, instead, you are encouraged to learn all skills for every weapon. So, if you pick skills, that you are not happy with, just roll with it, because in the end, you will learn it all. If your really unhappy with your choices, it's either just roll with it, or start a new character. (but that should only be picked if you really fucked something up)

As I said earlier, you can learn all the skills, but you can only have 5 or 6 equipped + 5-6 passive skills. Passive skills are mostly just to make current equipped skills better, but also, decreased colddowns, self-healing when you crit/dmg your enemies etc etc. I really recommend to have at least 2-3 passive healing skills equipped, because if you do, you will be unstoppable.

Quest-wise, it's pretty much as you would expect. But at the same time, it's not. It's not like in WoW, where you have to kill 50 enemies, and collect 20 sticks. It's more like, "discover the truth about person a" types of quests, and on the way there, you kill zombies and all kinds of weird shit. Some quests also requires some actually thought and research. That's why the game also has a in-game browser. Because they can't be always be solved by just killing this and kill that, collect that etc etc. Also, some of the quests, may have the answer in front of your eyes, and you will only get clues. It's often in the clues, or the in small details that you will be able to solve them.

One thing that is really great, there is no real grind in the game per say, but almost every quest is repeatable after 12 or 24 hours. So that means, you can go back, do them again, get your skill points, move on, if you arrive at an area you think is little to difficult.

Sadly, you can't have 100 quests active in your quest log. But it works like this: You can have one MAIN quest, a few side quests, and your own personal (or faction based) quest active. But lets say you stumble across another MAIN quest and pick that one instead, you current MAIN quest will be set in a "pause state", so when you have completed the new MAIN quest, you can run back, and active the previous MAIN quest, and pick up where you left off. It does not reset just because you pick a new one.

Also, you do not need to run back to the quest giver when a quest is complete. Instead, you use your cellphone to complete it.

Secret World also takes place pretty much in present time. And depending on the server - RP heavy.

If you pick one such server. London as far as I can tell is a big RP area. Where people go to the cinema, night clubs to dance and just hang out, etc etc.

You have "real" shops, where you actually enter the shop, walk around and look for clothes and what ever.

The game has a cash shop, that focusing heavily on cosmetic stuff, and few XP boots and some starter weapons/gear to speed up the process a little, if needed.

You can have none-combat pets, but they still provide some bonus for you, depending on the pet.

That's all I can think of now. I recommend to check some Youtube videos first and maybe even read up some, on their forums to get help with "decks" (equivalent to classes) because it can be little difficult to get it all. There is no real classes per say, like Rogue, Warrior, etc etc. But you still have the typical Tank, Dps, Healer classifications.

You can also have a few "load outs", so that means, you can have one for soloing, one for support in dungeons (some skills also benefits others, so it's worth if you are a dps, to have few support skills as well) etc etc. There is no limitations, but there a few good synergies between weapons and skills.

Ok, I'm gonna stop now. Wall of text is never fun, but I got little carried away, because I am stoned :D Therefore, expect some mistakes in the text etc etc. Can't be bothered right now to check. I have shit to smoke! ;)

Good Luck!

Ps, There is no need to create like 10 characters. Only 3. One for each faction + faction quest.

When I saw this post at first, I thought of the same thing H34d5h07.

I didn't suggest it though, because in my opinion it doesn't meet 5 and 8.        While it IS free to play and has no subscription, you still have to buy a copy of the game itself, once.

Also, although it has decent PVP, I've never really been a fan of it in this game.

That said, it does meet every other criteria, it is an absolutely amazing game, in my opinion, one of the best MMORPGs out there, and right now its on sale on steam for the rest of the week!

$10 and you got yourself pretty much as close as you are gonna get, in my opinion!

Hm, I had no idea you had to buy it. Something I haven't done at all. However, I have spent a good amount of money on the cash shop and once I even recruited a friend, so it's possible that I might had a sweet deal going on at the time. Like "spend this much, get the rest of the game for free" or something similar.

I have no experience with the PvP, (not a fan of PvP in general) so I didn't cover that. All I know is, if your faction "owns" all the points in a PvP match, that translate even to the PvE world, and gives you a few bonuses like a small boost in dmg, crit, health reg and such.
