4 Questions: RCOTS & Monli Race

1. Can I just download any UNP/CBBE outfit/replacer and they'll fit, or will they look weird and unnatural? I desperately want the 'Sotetta Necromancer' and 'Merta Assassin' outfits for the Monli race.

2. Is there any way I can place them all out in the world to explore, or are they all just crammed into the forge? That sucks, and really breaks the immersion having to craft all of these strong, cheap armors. Am I missing something? Perhaps I should quit using Scarcity 10x, Morrowloot 4E, and UMSO?

3. Where can I find more outfit/armor packs other than just "Googling" them? There a list somewhere?

4. What's the difference between RCOTS & Skykids? Or is it all preference? In which case, which do you prefer and why?

Thanks many :'D

No you can't just download anything monli race uses the CBBE body so if a armor says UNP/CBBE you can't download and use the UNP version you must download the CBBE or you will get nasty hip marks nipple textures will be in the wrong spot and nastiness under the breasts. Same goes if you are using UNP you can't use CBBE armors/outfits. The only time that you can use a armor for a different body like UNP/CBBE is if those areas listed above are covered up by the armor/outfit.

Some might be in the forge some might be in the leather rack others are not anywhere you just use the console to add them to your inventory some might be in a hidden place or in chests. It all depends on what the author listed on their page.

Skykids is standalone so it won't effect other races in the game.

1. No. I'm not 100% on Monli, but like Myuhinny says, it uses CBBE. So you can only use CBBE on it, otherwise you'll have weird texture glitches. RCotS has a CBBE and UNP body type, so whichever you choose is the types of armors you'll be able to wear for it. CBBE and UNP are not compatible together, so pick one and stick with it.

2. You can place them out in the world, but it will require some work on your part. You'll have to create a leveled list and assign all the armors and clothes to locations so they show up. Otherwise, most of it is just crafted.

3. Depending on the body, you can find them pretty much anywhere. Don't be afraid of google, it is your friend. With the UNP types, anything that is UNP or UNP Skinny will work fine. There is plenty of different threads here on LL that has conversions for UNP Skinny, as well as googling will help you find other armor packs as well. Anything for x117 or UNP Petite or UNP Skinny should yield you results.

4. RCotS was made off the original mod named CotS (Children of the Sky). It is a playable child race, and child replacer as well. It has a ton of support, custom outfits and hairs, races, etc etc. It's pretty decent, not too bad. Downside? It isn't very stable, and rather buggy. Like I said, it was built off the old CotS which was buggy as heck, and none of the bugs were fixed. As well, it WILL overwrite a lot of your vanilla assets. Meaning, your regular vanilla races will use the RCotS assets. It is not standalone, and will conflict with other parts of the game.

SkyKids is a new playable child race, and also has a child replacer. It looks different from RCotS, and as well, has plenty of support too. SkyKids has a fancy tool (using skyproc), to patch any and all armors for the race automatically. So no invisible outfits because they are flagged wrong or anything. Nice thing about SkyKids, it is completely standalone. It doesn't conflict with anything and doesn't overwrite any vanilla assets. It is very stable and won't cause any issues (as long as you follow the instructions correctly, which isn't hard cause it installs via mod manager for easy installation).

I personally prefer SkyKids, but it might be biased cause I made a child replacer for it. But I prefer it as well cause it is standalone and doesn't overwrite stuff like RCotS does.

1. Gotcha, think I understand now: All armors/clothing that use the CBBE bodytype will immediately scale down and perfectly fit a smaller race. UNP = totally incompatible with the Monli race, and everyhing will look retarded on it.

Solution: Only install CBBE.

2. Miles above my head, hopefully one day someone will create a mod that will let us easily scatter out all of our mods into the world as opposed to having all of them jammed into a forge.

Solution: None

3. Alright, completely lost me. Myuhinny said that I'll get "nasty hip marks nipple textures will be in the wrong spot and nastiness under the breasts", but you say that "anything that is UNP or UNP Skinny will work fine". Which is it?  :s

Solution: I have no idea, I'm completely lost again.

4. Thank you so much for clearing this up. Skykids is infinitely better. It patches every single armor on the entire internet to fit its specific, petite bodytype, making it 100% pointless to search for any specific type of armor. Run the "Skyproc", and all conflicts will be utterly eliminated. There is no need for RCOTS since every armor ever created fits Skykids perfectly. It's very reassuring that bodytype no longer matters. I'll no longer have to Google anything since everything fits Skykids via a "skyproc". Thank you for clarifying, downloading Skykids now.

Solution: Install anything and everything, regardless if it's CBBE, UNP, or 7B.

This is so frustrating. I hate being such a pitiful, hopeless amateur. Mods, please change my name to @MASSIVE_FAILURE. Thanks.

RCOTS doesn't overwrite vanilla assests, it overrides certain records, notably, the children. It comes with everything needed separate and ready to go. You kinda have that backwards - Skykids is NOT standalone since it requires you to run skyproc on vanilla assets to create the assets skykids needs. RCOTS is standalone because all you do is install it, enable it in your mod-manager, and you're 100% all done.

I've also yet to see an actual bug in RCOTS. The primary problem people run into in getting RCOTS working is you need Dawnguard and Hearthfires, even if it doesn't say so in the requirements. That, and the load order are 99% of problems people have with RCOTS. The third most common problem is probably size - RCOTS with the armor pack and standard child replacer is effin HUGE! As in several gigs. You really need the armor pack, but I made a "lite" version of the child replacer so that you can save yourself a couple gigs of custom clothes and armor.

Typo It's fixed now.

The only time you can use a UNP body and wear a CBBE armor/outfit or use a CBBE body and wear a UNP armor/outfit is if the breast area and hips are covered up to hide those problem areas or if they are a full body armor.

This is what CBBE looks like with UNP textures.

I think you misunderstood. Armors will NOT scale down automatically. They still have to be fitted to RCotS or SkyKids. The skyproc patcher in SkyKids just makes those armors work for SkyKids is all. Usually armors mods have issue working on custom races in general. They have to be flagged in the CK to show up properly. The patcher just basically "flags" these armors to automatically work for SkyKids. It doesn't resize them or anything like that. You'd have to edit them yourself via Outfit Studio or 3ds Max to have them be the right size.

What Myuhinny is talking about, is if you wear a CBBE armor on a UNP body. Or vice versa. You'll end up with issues like those. As long as you keep to the same "family", you'll be fine. This means as long as you are using a CBBE body, anything that was built off CBBE will work. Same goes for UNP. UNP Petite, UNP Skinny, and x117 are all variations of the UNP body. They will all work together just fine without any texture glitches. What we mean is, stick to the same family. UNP is one family, CBBE is another family.

Yes, it does overwrite stuff and overrides and redirects assets to use the RCotS assets instead. Have you installed RCotS before and then tried to play a vanilla race? They are using the RCotS assets, not their vanilla assets. This is what RCotS does. It "redirects" the vanilla races to use RCotS assets. That is not standalone, as it overwrites a lot of vanilla stuff. SkyKids doesn't do any of that. It is a completely seperate races from all the other races and doesn't interfere with anything. Even the armors and clothing in RCotS overwrite some of the vanilla meshes, making adults wear children sized outfits. The SkyKids patcher creates it's own seperate outfits based off of the vanilla outfits for SkyKids, so it doesn't affect the regular vanilla outfits. Thus why I say it is standalone, as it does not affect any of the vanilla game.

And reading through that thread, people are reporting bugs all the time. So saying you haven't seen them, doesn't mean they aren't there. I'm not bashing on RCotS or anything, it is a well done mod. CotS was well done, and when Glouf took over, they did a good job as well. But there is no denying that it has issues, like the whole fact that it redirects/overwrites/overrides/etc whatever you want to call it, the vanilla assets to use RCotS assets instead. This was an issue with CotS that Jittek was planning on fixing, and even admitted to, but they dissapeared before they could fix it. And it carried over to RCotS as well. That's just the way the mod has been since the beginning.

Just tried Skykids...

I prefer RCOTS. But I only prefer it because I am sick and tired of staring at all of these folders on my desktop and annoying the people here with my modding incompetence, and frankly I just want to play the game at this point. As for their clothing, well, they refused to put any on. My SK character just ran around in her yellow underthings aimlessly looking for something that fit. Surprisingly, nothing did, and I ragequit. I have a lot of x117 armors, I'm assuming they'll be compatible? What about a vanilla replacer for RCOTS/Skykids so I won't have to smith everything?

I also tried Monli again with a basic CBBE outfit....

- Character gained 40 lbs when putting it on. Hardly "compatible". The x117/RCOTS armor fits the Monli character very nicely. Guess I'm stuck with that...

Another question:

I'm about to start a new game with another Monli character until I can figure out how Skykids works. Where can I find some more Monli presets? Being binded to just these three presets kinda sucks. If there's someplace that I can get some new mouths/nose shapes it'd be fantastic. I usually spend 30 minutes on the nose alone. I'd like to have that part near complete from the beginning, know what I mean... Must I use ECE? I really love the RM layout, but I'll change if I can get some more mouth/nose shapes and presets with ECE.

I've made some amazing characters with RM, but it doesn't matter if I can't find any damn clothes that fit.

If you're staring at a bunch of folders for SkyKids, that means you tried to install it manually. It's a NMM/MO mod. You install it via one of those and it gives you all the options to install it. Easy peasy.

As for being naked, sounds like you didn't run the SkyProc Patcher for SkyKids if nothing is showing up. You kind of have to run that and let it finish on it's own. Don't close it out, it will close itself out. It takes a minute or two, then it's done.

That patcher gives you vanilla replacers for SkyKids (along with any other armors you have). Any vanilla armor you put on will use the SkyKids meshes. RCotS has it's own replacer as well (I believe). It's on the main page in a seperate download with a bunch of other things as well. If the x117/RCotS stuff fits the Monli just fine, then I guess Monli uses UNP. Sorry I can't help more with that, as I haven't used the Monli stuff before, just went off what Myuhinny was saying. But regular CBBE armors will look large regardless. They have to be CBBE slim or a more petite version of CBBE. Just tossing on any CBBE outfit will not automatically conform it to your body shape. They are compatible with CBBE bodies, but each body has different shapes. So whatever shape the armor is built for, is the shape it will have. Like I said before, in order for it to be the same size as your body, you'll have to edit the armors in Outfit Studio or 3ds Max.

I don't know of any presets, but you can always check the RaceMenu Preset thread in general discussion. Don't know if there is any Monli ones, but you're mostly going to be creating them from scratch regardless. ECE won't give you more presets, as the character creator you use (RaceMenu or ECE) has nothing to do with how many presets you'll have. It's all up to you to make your own face really. Or you can ask in the Monli thread if anyone can share a preset for you so you can use it as a starter.

But yeah, as I said, clothes or armors won't magically fit your body shape (the child body for instance). They have to be edited to fit it, otherwise they will use their own body shape that they were made for. Check out these threads for some armors that will fit the RCotS/SkyKids/Monli body:

-Armor Conversions for YII - Techniques-Labors *COTS* : The original CotS clothing conversions.

-LDW's Crimson Closet : Anything that is UNP Slim here will fit fine.

-FoxMerged : A lot of these armors will fit just fine, though a few have breasts.

And pretty much searching Nexus for UNP Skinny or UNP Slim or UNP Petite will yield you some results as well. Even basic UNP will be fine, except at 100 weight. If you're not familiar with installing these types of mods, then yes it will be frustrating at first. Nothing is as simple as copy paste, take some time to actually read descriptions and learn what is required and what to do. It will save you a ton of frustration.

I've never seen adults wearing RCOTS clothes/armor. Only certain child races should wear child clothes/armor. RCOTS doesn't affect the vanilla child races, it makes new races (the "enfant" races which is one of the things sexlab specifically excludes) which the kids are set to in overrides. And I was slightly wrong about one thing - RCOTS requires you to install apachii hair. Since damn near everything uses apachii hair, I tend to forget about that - I tend to think of apachii hair as part of the "vanilla" game. :)  But because it needs apachii hair, it's not 100% standalone. And that's another point - standalone just means nothing else is required for a mod to work. It has nothing to do with overwriting files or not.

I think the installation for RCOTS is the biggest problem - if you do it right, it should just work and not affect anything else. I've learned how to install it right, so I never see any problems. If you get parts out of order, then you see problems of all sorts. So in that respect, Skykids is probably better. One thing that can help quite a bit with installation (in general, but RCOTS in particular): make BSAs out of all loose files!! Even scripts and seq and those other fiddly files should all be in BSAs.
