Need Help for DOA 5:LR Modding (maybe OT, sorry 'bout that)

Hi guys,

I'm so sorry to open a new thread for this, i checked in the Modder Resources one but the first thing i saw there was (more or less):

"This section is just for tools, not informations and stuff"

so i came here to ask you a couple of things.

 

After failing at modding a bunch of textures (uMod won't load some of the .dds i modify, some textures will stay black, sometimes it looks like i succeded at removing one layer of clothing but something keeps staying underneath , and stuff like that) i gave up on trying this by myself.

Since i really want to give my contribution to the nude modding community, i really need some guide or tutorial or anything that will help me to get a hold of the texture modding basics (normal, speculars, light and bump maps, how to handle alpha channels in the right way, what is the best format (EX: differences between .dds and . png) etc.)

This has probably been asked a million times, but i think that it still would be helpful for everyone who would like to spice up their favorite girl's outfit or even make simple things, such as recolors, by themselves. This would only get more people to share their work, and to soothe the pain for not being able (yet) to work on the meshes!!

I was in you'r situation just 4 days ago.

im not good at explaining so i´ll leave you the tutorials that helped me to understand how this works, they´re very easy to understand

for editing the dds files without loosing the transaparency (this was my main problem):

gimp 2.8 (that´s all i use):

and some textures most of all actually, remain black even if you make it transparent, that´s just the way the game works so you cant make every costume topless like ayane´s overall or momiji´s mummy costume, even those can´t be made full transparent or you´ll get a whole where you can see through your character, so that´s all that can be done through this Umod method.
