Yep, that red hair looks perfect. Right now I'm experimenting with tweaking the height map in the _n.dds file so that the pubic hair looks 3D (kinda) instead of 2D body paint.

KinkieGurl Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Sure. I'm going to try a few things, including the ndo plugin for photoshop. I'm not sure how it will work out, but i'll be satisfied if I get a surface that approximates 'pressed down pubic hair'.

Would you be so kind to tell me if you accomplish such a task? I already answered this question: About the normal map' date=' you can make another one pretty easy, following the Jerbsinator's tutorial: http://www.loverslab.com/showthread.php?tid=2694 [/quote'] You have to play with the normal map. White spots makes the texture glossy, and dark ones makes the texture less glossy. So using both you can create a "fake-3D" effect.

The alpha channel in the _n.dds file determines the glossiness of the texture. However, the blueish colored part (the RGB channels) in the _n.dds file contains the so called height-map. If you want to achive high-gloss skin, you tweak the alpha channel. However, if you want scratches, bumps, fine threads and hairs that seem to throw shadows as the position of the light source changes you need to work on the height map.

Interesting so their is a way to make a certain part of the image to have more depth then the overall image. Which is by editing the blueish colored section of the image?
KinkieGurl Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Yes, precisely. The color information coded into that blue layer represents the height differences compared to the normal plane of the surface. Check out this tutorial (the guy uses this nDo Photoshop plugin to create height-maps). You can see how the blue colored parts affect the surface... I'd say it is marvelous. http://www.philipk.net/tutorials/ndo/ndo.html
Ryu Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Yes, it actually does work like that and Kinkie is right. I analysed some armor and clothing normal maps and certain combinations of colors on the borders of an item (like a belt or lines on armor) on the normal map create an actual 3d effect in-game. Oblivion seems to translate colors into visual effects . On the normal map white --> blue means "no gloss" --> "gloss", however black = no gloss (the borders of a face normal map for example are black). You can play with the blue colour saturation and get a gradient of gloss effects on textures from slight shine to an extremely "oily" look. Adding for example a greenish border around a section of a normal map (like black in cell shading) will cause it to stand out a bit in-game, giving a 3D effect. At least that's what I noticed viewing and analysing certain normal maps.

Guest wnxmegax Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Well after messing with a few tools I managed to come up with this its not prefect but it show general idea of what people are trying to get for their texture.
KinkieGurl Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 well after messing with a few tools I managed to come up with this its not prefect but it show general idea of what people are trying to get for their texture. That's pretty good, what I am trying to do is cut the public hair and paste it into a new layer. Then I'll use nDo to convert the layer to a height map. When I'm satisfied I'll paste the layer back into the original _n.dds file of the shaved body texture. nDo is great, but it also turns body tattoos into a height map if you use the entire texture so I think working with a closely cropped pubic hair will produce better results.

minaemm Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Thanks for documenting your progress, but you do know that the original normal maps for the chocolate elves textures do have height maps for "fur", yeah? Which is kinda my problem. I was searching long for a "no-fur" version, then i found this, but then i discovered that i really did not like the huge gloss effect with the normal map. However the standard normal map makes it look like my girl has a kind of scar down there because of the hair included in that So what i am asking for i guess is a non-fur standard normal map (or even an oiled 1 one)... since i am using a Lop Ears Choco elf and i am useless with texturing, i am having trouble matching up any of the glossed normal maps, so i would like one just like the standard one without the fur effect, so it matches up better with the face texture from the Lop Ears Choco Thanks
Xanshio Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Since the original link was removed, I reuploaded the file: 96 More Brushes for Photoshop ~ eyebrows, eyelashes and pubic hair. Enjoy.
Nephenee13 Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 So what i am asking for i guess is a non-fur standard normal map (or even an oiled 1 one)... You can use the Normal Map from the Hi Rez HGEC texture pack.
