Changing characters race w/o loses - is it possible somehow? Like by editing you savegame or smth :D The reason is i want to make a more unique character, but for now if i change anything for Nords or female chars in general, the changes apply to all the female characters in the game >_> One would say, just install a custom race mod and start a new game... well i dont want to restart my game AGAIN, i messed it up like two times on levels 25-35 and this is now my third playthrough, i dont want to even see those quests the 4th time >_<... But if i change my race in "showracemenu", i will mess up my skill-points :dodgy: So yeah - help me out if its even possible

Darn, I was hoping for a solution and not a question, lol.

I've read that toggling god mode, tgm, can help preserve some things, but doesn't help me when changing races.

Using showracemenu to change things other than race, changes that are merely cosmetic, isn't a problem for me. It's just when changing from one race to another.

Will be checking back on this thread to see if there is a solution.

yes from one race to the other the skills get popped. but if you write down what you have before the swap it is easy to set them back in the console.

Take the shortcut.

Screw showracemenu and go for "player.setrace 'racename'"

After wards, change your stats.

Okay, this is all good to know. I still have a save of my previous character with all her stats. I changed her race and made a new character and created a new save so I can go back and forth for the stats. How exactly do you change the stats though? I am trying to replace both my level stats (magicka, health, stamina) and all the other level stats (destruction, restoration, heavy armor, etc.). Is it possible to change both with command? If someone could include the commands I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Useful commands for this:

player.modav - use this for all the skills(because while setav works, it circumvents the levelling process.)

List of skill names because some of them aren't obvious:

sneak

lockpicking

speechcraft

marksman

alchemy

conjuration

restoration

destruction

illusion

lightarmor

heavyarmor

alteration

onehanded

smithing

enchanting

pickpocket

block

twohanded

player.setav - use this for health, magicka, stamina.

and

help "" 0 - replace with phrase of your choice. 0 is there to search for all, other natural numbers work as well. (This is useful for finding perk names, just look up the name of the perk, and it'll give you the codes)

All of this data originates(for me, anyways) at:

If you're gonna do all of that.

I recommend making a "bat file" incase you didnt know.

Saves time by 20minutes without typing the same thing over and over again

Does it become a problem when you need to subtract skills? Often my skills get redistributed so that some skills are way leveled up that I didn't want. Is there a way to level down properly or does the above instruction already work properly for that?

I'd take the above, since I see no other answer.

Unless you want to do more exploring at every Skyrim forum there is in the google search engine

Or, I could take the time to try it myself and see if it works. But I guess it was more like what I thought was an interesting question with an answer relevant to this thread so we could all see. If I get around to it, I'll report back with my findings.

player.modav only acts as a buff, like using an enchantment or bonus. It won't change leveling or base skills.

advskill is a sure way to level up while adding to your skill. However, leveling down is still a mystery to me...

Sorry, I just looked up the commands on the wiki when I wanted to change race, but yeah you're right.

As to levelling down, I imagine setlevel and setav would do the trick. I think you'd have to manually redo all the perks though.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Maybe skip my suggestion for using advskill and just go for setting skills as you said.

Hah, I meant level down in a particular skill after having them shuffled by showracemenu but still probably just as simple with setav. Yeah, I feel lame.
