bjornk Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 You might want to back this up, if you like old-school, isometric, party-based, turn-based RPGs. If you have backed projects like Wasteland 2, Divinity OS and Pillars of Eternity, I see no reason to skip this one. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/537511454/seven-dragon-saga-by-tactical-simulations-interact Personally, I think RPG developers should create something new and innovative and use Kickstarter for that, instead of playing the nostalgia card. Tabletop RPG simulators with D&D rules and such are a thing of the past IMO.
SweetLittleSister Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 1:07 Gah! The eyebrows. THE EYEBROWS! ... So it's Daggerfall with Final Fantasy combat?
bjornk Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 So it's Daggerfall with Final Fantasy combat? Never played them. What made you think that?
swmas Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 "Tabletop RPG simulators with D&D rules and such are a thing of the past IMO." They are fun, if people like them, they should keep making them. If you strip the D&D like mechanics you get either a movie or an action game.

They are fun, if people like them, they should keep making them. Sure, I didn't mean that they should stop making them, but I really want to see a new take on RPG design. If you strip the D&D like mechanics you get either a movie or an action game. No, not necessarily, I understand your concern though. The thing is, they base their game mechanics on D&D-like rule sets, instead of designing everything from scratch, because it's easier to implement. IMO, a modern RPG, in order to provide a more realistic and immersive experience, needs to be more like a simulation, rather than a tabletop game and should combine different game genres into one package. I wouldn't mind discussing what I have in mind in another thread, not here though.

bjornk Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 Starting the game as the representative of the emperor sure sounds similar to the Daggerfall intro video you posted, but that's the only thing we know about the story of the game. I'm afraid I don't get the FF similarity.
SweetLittleSister Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Daggerfall had a few quests (and was so damn buggy I never knew whether they were side-quests or parts of the main arc) in which a King would tell you he'd pawned a ring given to him by the Emperor and now that the Emperor's agents were skulking about he would be needing it back so he'd appreciate it if you could go and un-pawn it for him without telling anybody. Final Fantasy, in my personal experience, consists of: Tootle, tootle, tootle, {start of battle scene noise} "OH FUCK OFF!!!" {battle music on} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {creature attack sounds} "Fuck off!" {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {creature attack sounds} "Fuck off!" {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {creature attack sounds} "Fuck off!" {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {creature attack sounds} "Fuck off!" {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {much blipping around menus to tell a team-member to attack} {attack sounds} {victory mini-tune} "I'm so sick of that shit." Tootle, tootle, tootle, tootle, tootle.
