Sidewalks

So... sidewalks... you know, those pale strips of cement located to the side of the road? These things are most commonly found in cities and neighborhoods....

Apparently the buffoons in my neighborhood think that they are there for decoration and not usage. When its a single person using the siding of the road its not horrible, but my biggest pet peeve is parents. That's right, I said parents. Because, it would seem, pushing your baby's stroller in the road is much safer than using the sidewalk not but a foot away... And I'm talking about strollers built to hold triplets as well, those big wide ones that could fit on a sidewalk and shouldn't be in the middle of the damned road.

I have even made a point of gesturing to the sidewalk as I drive past people, telling them to use it.  (Not a rude gesture, merely one suggesting that they move over).

Does anyone else have morons around that don't know what a sidewalk is for?

I see the same thing in my neighborhood, worst was someone wearing all black walking in the middle of the street at night. I came close to having a new hood ornament.

Our sidewalks are in disrepair and incomplete to were its almost nonexistent outside a rich area/naboirhood and I live in fucking Houston not to mention the neighborhood right across the steet from mine has sidewalks with not so much as a crack on em while ours are so uneven and full of cracks it makes my back hurt to walk on em for 10 minutes

Well atleast he would have been dressed properly to attend his own funeral

Had a guy killed doing that here.  As usual, the media instantly latched onto "shall they be prosecuted for hitting him?"  Fortunately, uncommon sense won out and the driver who hit and killed a black guy wearing black, walking down the middle of the road on a dark night without a light, was not charged.

In my neighborhood, there's only two options as a pedestrian:  either walk on a road with sidewalks (with steep hills throughout), or a busy road that's more level with no sidewalks at all.  Which would you choose?

And during the winter months after a snow and ice storm, the road crews in my area always ignore the sidewalks.  I think that would make it more plausible to walk in the street.  How do you expect people to walk on this, especially during long distances?

-snip-

Ever heard of common sense? There's a difference between a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation like you've described, and a "THERE IS A PERFECTLY GOOD SIDEWALK OVER THERE GET THE FUCK OFF THE ROAD" situation that the thread's about.

If it was a matter of not having a good or clear sidewalk I would understand but my neighborhood has good sidewalks on both sides of the street but even if you were going to walk in the street you don't walk down the middle of it.
