AKM Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Thought I'd post here too, see what you guys thought. OS: WIN7 64bit Case: Thermaltake SharkMotherboard: ASUS z97-ACPU: Intel I7 4790KMemory: Corsair or Kingston or G Skill (haven't decided yet) 8 GBGraphics: Nvidia GTX 770PSU: Corsair 600W maybe 650W CPU fan: Unknown yet? Apparently this comes with the CPU. I've never speced or built myself before, which I'm planning to do this time. This last one was custom speced, parted and built for me. Cost is roughly equivalent to last build, and I'm looking for it to be "runable" for 8-10 years, as this current one has been. Thanks for the input!
Stephanie (skyrims whore) Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 sounds like a good rig ,but i'd up the os to win8.1
Slammer64 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 There are problems with how Win8 handles graphics memory, Win7 is good enough for games, I'd get a Zalman ball cooler for the CPU and some Arctic Silver 5 for thermal paste. I run an almost identical build with a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK with 32 Gig DDR3 1600 ram and a PNY GTX 770. Another thing I'd recommend is getting a stronger power supply, maybe something in the range of 750+ watts.
bjornk Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 If you're going to use the stock fan then maybe you should consider buying the i7 4790 (the one without 'K'). I'd recommend MSI or Gigabyte for motherboard, instead of Asus. I like lightweight aluminum cases, but with the five 5.25" drive bays TT Shark is really out of fashion. I'd recommend buying something else, unless you already have it.
