CK Dialogue Views - I think I messed up... help please

Was working on JUGs yesterday. Everything fine. Lots of dialogue, several branches, many topics, etc.

This morning I went into CK just to make a little mod so I could check out idles in dialogue. It had a single Top Level Branch with about 24 or 25 Topics in it. Worked ok.

Then I went back in to work on JUGs a few minutes ago and....

Dialogue view totally screwed. Instead of many branches it only has 1. My Topics appear to be very stacked on top of each other with some being way off to one side.

I removed the esp for my IdleTest mod so it wasn't in load order at all.

Is this recoverable?

How can I fix my dialogue view for JUGs?

When working on JUGs, I select Skyrim, update, and Sexlab and make JUGs the Active File.

When I worked on the IdleTest mod I selected Skyrim, update, and SexLab ... no Active file (because I was creating a new mod)

I'm like.... devastated... any help appreciated. I'm going to go clean snow off my car, go to the store, and maybe come home and ..... cry. :)

But they all appear to be in one top-level branch now. I had some normal branches and.... it's REALLY had to figure out where to drag everything to get it organized again.

If I drag the top-level topic, of a NORMAL branch, off of the top-level branch it's sitting on now... will the normal branch reappear?

I mean... are my BRANCHES stacked on top of each other too?

I was afraid to do too much for fear of making it worse. I REALLY don't want to start over.

But, yes, I *think* the Topics are all there.

The layout of dialogues very often is screwed up. But it is only a layout problem.

Just move all your topics until they are nicely positioned. You mod will work fine also if you don't do it.

Usually I don't place more than a couple of top branches in the same dialogue. I think there is a correlation between how many top branches are in a dialogue and how often the layout is screwed up. But it is just a guess.

Everything is stacked. I'm glad I named my topics the way I did. I can zoom out far enough to just be able to read them and then "sort" them by draging them to different areas of the screen (making new "piles" of topics). Once I get all of the topics for a branch, I select the whole pile and drag it away from the OTHER piles....

Once I get them all separated into branches I can re-organize and put them in order.

Can I move a branch to a new dialogue view once I get these sorted out?

Having different views would make sense. I think I just have way too much crap on the screen right now.

Move a branch from one dialog to another is possible but really complex.

I did it a few times, but mainly you have to do it through TES5Edit.

Don't do it. Just place your future branches in a new dialogue.

Personally I don't even go into Dialogue Views tab at all, I just use the Player Dialogue tab for everything. But if Player Dialogue is also showing your branches incorrectly, then something got seriously broke and it'll be a pain to fix.

Worst case scenario, you can revert to the latest version of JUGs you've made publicly available; it's dated yesterday so I assume you won't lose most of your progress.

What happened was... (and I'm not sure HOW it happened)...

In Dialogue View, all of the branches were stacked on top of each other. And all of the TOPICS were stacked on top of each other ON TOP OF the stack of BRANCHES!

Took me about an hour and a half to A.) figure out what was going on and then B.) drag everything around. If I dragged all TOPICS for BRANCH1 into one area of the screen.... well there was the background representing the branch.

So I separated the topics into piles (which separated the branches) then I moved things to make room, then I moved all of the topics within a branch so they were in order again.

I've done everything in Dialogue View so far. I've not tried simply working within the Player Dialogue tab.

Wow... Just looked at the Player Dialogue tab. I don't consider myself OCD but nothing is in order in there! :) It's not easy to see what Topic is linked to what and some of my Topics have multiple links. Would be nice if you could group them or something. Doesn't appear as though you can change the order in which they're listed.

Maybe I'm too visual. :)  How the heck do you keep it straight?

I have ONE branch that has ONE conversation in it and it's pretty linear... and about 25 Topics long (at the end it splits into 5 possibilities)

I'd have to be a lot more rganized to use PLayer Dialogue tab I think.

Standardized naming rules go a long way to keep track of how everything's structured. :P

I agree the Dialogue View is much better to get a quick idea of how the topics interact with each other, but I'm a programmer at heart and have an irrational hatred for fancy GUIs.

HAhahaha.... OK... I can go with that. I am NOT a programmer, but I did the hardware (configuration and purchasing advice) for a university. Give me a role and scope for a server or a piece of network infrastructure hardware and I can roll with that.... but I associated with a LOT of programmers.

One of them told me he was "CDO". I asked him what the meant. He said, "It's like OCD but with the letters i the correct order."  :D

So... I'm learning..

Can Branch1 have a Topic called T1 and Branch2 also have a T1 Topic?

I could GET the Topics in order within a branch now that I see how it's doing it, but you can't make this damn window bigger, nor can you move the separator between panes within the window. Can't Maximize. Terrible design.

I don't think you can have two topics with the exact same name, even if they're in different branches. But this is easily circumvented by having your topic names start with a prefix of the branch they belong to. (Incidentally, this also makes it much easier to identify the topic's source in many situations)

I definitely agree with you in regards to not being able to resize the window, though. My topic and branch names are a bit on the long side and it often makes it annoying to work with the tiny windows.

Yeah, I have almost everything prefixed with the mod name (Jugs) so a branch has a name like: Jugs_FPCM (Female Player Character interaction with Male npc)

The branches I can generally keep short.

Topics inside that branch though... Jugs_FPCM_1, (then 1a, then 1end), Jugs_FPCM_2, (2b, 2b, 2c, 2end)

When I get a FORK though... it gets interesting

Jugs_FPCM_3, 3a, 3b.

                                        3b1, 3b1a, 3b1c...

                                        3b2, 3b2a, 3b2c....

And odd ones have more naming junk in them Jugs_MPCFFolNoJugs <---Start Topic...........Jugs_MPCFFNJ1, 1a, 1b...

Not enough window! hehehe

Be crazy like me and do it directly in TES5Edit  :D

Don't do it, I am joking...
