Ok so i saw the post about MP+FNIS but did not want to bump a year old thread. I have set up fnis in the executables setting. Now when i run the generate user tool MO tells me there is files in my overwrite mod.

From what i can find from searching through threads people are saying to right click the folder and make it a seperate mod?  Im just a little confused I suppose i could just try it and go for the trial and error way but any input would be helpful

Make sure your Overwrite File is empty. Once FNIS dumps the files into your Overwrite, right click on the Overwrite File like so:

Click 'Create Mod'. A window will come up asking you to name the mod. I like to make the name as descriptive as possible since I run several profiles.

MO will make your new mod and all you have to do is activate it.  :)

If you're running more than one profile with different setups, it can mess you up because the Overwrite is for ALL profiles. So if you have a profile with SexLab and one without, if you leave your FNIS stuff or anything else that dumps stuff there, it will affect all profiles, not just the one you want it to affect.

If you only run one profile, it would technically be fine to leave it down there. I know people who do, but it's messy and will confuse the snot out of you when stuff like SKSE plugins start dumping stuff there. Or it does me anyway, but it doesn't take much.

Personally I would just create a new mod to keep it nice and neat. ;)

Alright I got another question for you. But I believe im screwed. I installed MO into programs files not my skyrim folder. so i backed up the mods folder in MO and reinstalled. none of the mods I just spent hours downloading are showing up in MO and I cant add them into because they are unpacked.. lol Is there any solution to this or am i going to have to re-download the mods? I just tried to 7zip a follower and install but it failed. Im on dsl and mods that are 500mb take me an hour to DL

***edit**

scratch that downloads folder had all the files i need. Im going to try the steps you provided for the FNIS user generate. thank you

You don't have to make a mod out of the files in the Overwrite folder, you *can* leave them there if you actively use *only one* profile. However, if you constantly switch between multiple MO profiles, the files in the Overwrite folder may cause problems, as you can imagine, so you should turn them into a separate mod for that particular profile.

Let's assume you use the mod A and mod B in Profile #1 and both mods include animations which are handled by FNIS. However, in Profile #2 you only use one of these mods or maybe you don't use any of them at all. Now, the files generated by FNIS for one of these profiles will not match the other profile and you'll have issues with animations. There may be other files generated by or for the mods you use in one profile and they won't match and may cause issues in other profiles.

In short, if you want completely independent profiles then you must keep the files generated in the Overwrite folder separately for each profile and that's why you create mods out of those files.

You can safely delete the "tools" folder after you ran FNIS, those are not needed. Either leave the rest as they are, or make a mod out of them.

It would be quite inconvenient for you if you install MO into somewhere in the SteamApps folder. Instead install it into, let's say, C:\SkyrimMO\ folder. Directory structure should look like this:

C:\SkyrimMO

C:\SkyrimMO\mods (installed mods)

C:\SkyrimMO\profiles (your profiles and saves, which you should make backups of)

C:\SkyrimMO\downloads (your mod downloads)

Try to keep the actual Skyrim installation folder as clean as possible. AFAIK the only files that need to go there are SKSE and ENB binaries. Everything else that may go into Skyrim\Data folder can be kept somewhere else separately when you use MO.

I'm still fairly new to modding, so anything to cut down on confusion for myself is good.

Out of curiosity, does the files in Overwrite from removed mods ever cause you problems?

Not as I aware of.

However, I used to have problem when remove them once.   :P

One may need a couple other things. For example, I have a controller emulator installed in there manually. But anything that would go into Skyrim's /data/ folder can be added to Mod Organizer (since it's just a virtual /data/ folder itself).
