NNS10 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I'd like to have a survival playthrough, where the world map is a dangerous place infested with mobs, and (preferably) towns also see invasions. Need some advice on whether this is possible though. These are the mods I've tried or heard of, and my issues with them: Zombie Apocalypse: This one was the first I tried, but it was no good. While there are lots of zombies, when they spawn from far distances, they seem to immediately know where your character is and rushes towards you. This makes it impossible to evade zombies and got old fast. 28 days and Bit 5 - Zombie Mutation: This one has town invasions, which was nice. However, in the world map, you rarely run into zombies, unless you pass by a door. And that's the main flaw of this mod. Zombies spawn from doors. If there are no doors, there are no zombies. So towns are dangerous, but the world map isn't. Monster Mod + Monster Wars: I haven't tried this one yet but am considering it. If anyone has used this, I'd appreciate your thoughts. How prevalent are monster mobs in the world map? Is the world map dangerous and filled with them? Also, were towns made safe? I was a bit disappointed to read the v5.1 changelog that said town/city invasions were removed. But if outside the walls is considerably dangerous, that may be sufficient. Any other ideas are welcome. To reiterate, I am looking to make the world map filled with danger. Attempting to travel outside city walls should be an experience filled with deadly encounters, on a level similar to a zombie apocalypse. Solo adventuring not advised. My hopes are currently on Monster Wars, but I haven't found too much info (e.g. informative videos) on the newer versions.
GECK.O Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I played Skyrim something like what you describe it above, a survival play through, but not exactly the same. My main purpose is playing as weak woman, try to survive at outdoor and being a prostitute in town. What I do is using mod like ASIS to increase the number of the enemy, 2-3 times. As well as another mod like OBIS, organized bandit. Then increasing game difficulty a bit. Well, I'm playing a weak character anyway. Skyrim world is not large, as you walk a bit, your will encounter enemy. As they are stronger and outnumbered you, like it or not, you must use tactic, sneaking or running away. Or they will rape and enslave you... <-- Well, I'm playing for Sexlab anyway. The thing I lack to complete the design of the game is the lack of exchanging sex for bodyguard or mercenaries mod. To guard me, as well as exploring dungeons.
Ashra XIII Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Also not zombies, but you could try Organized Bandits in Skyrim, which has a "Bandit Hell" edition that basically turns every critter-type animal (bunnies, foxes, goats, etc) into bandits. You will be beset by enemies from every direction, and towns will get invaded by them too I imagine. The only safe place would be cities, since bandits don't zone into them, but the outside areas of cities (stables and such) would be under attack.

Interesting idea, but that raises one concern: Does that mean it'll be a rain of arrows everywhere my character goes? Nice thing about zombies or monsters is they're generally melee.

If you set all critter to be a bandit, yes, it is. It's better to use OBIS in normal setting, but use ASIS to control how much enemy spawn in the game according to your taste. Based on my experience, it's already balanced enough. Between walking in the park and encountering enemy.
lordofpie7000 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 You could use the monster wars mod and Open cities mod which adds all major cities to the open worldspace. While the mobs may not be scripted to invade the towns you could run from monsters whom would chase you into towns. OBIS is a nice mod, and if you get the "More bandit camps" mod, (iirc that is the name), you will have hostiles everywhere. (don't know if they conflict or not however) (As a side note the monster wars mod adds quite a few scripts and can increase the papyrus load, I don't personally use it but in my experience more scripts isn't usually a good thing if you have a good amount installed already)
NNS10 Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 Okay, so what about Monster Wars itself? I've read that it's buggy, and considering the last update was in June 2013, nothing has changed since. Any confirmation of the bugginess? I'm reading that it's fairly buggy, and the mod was last updated in June 2013. http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/1xo2in/big_list_of_mods_to_avoid_and_alternatives/ Nexus comment page
lordofpie7000 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I wouldn't use it, but that is personal opinion, general consensus on bugs, and script paranoia talking.
NNS10 Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 Well, now I'm out of ideas. OBIS is fine as a supplement, but I'm trying to create a zombie/demon apocalypse setting. How can I do that when there are no good zombie/monster mods to overrun the world with? =\
NNS10 Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 Draugnarok? http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51695/? Anyone familiar with that? Amazingly, Google doesn't come back with anything useful. I briefly tested it using the Instant Mayhem debug feature, and the city invasions are certainly interesting. But I'm not seeing any Draugr squads out in the wild or on the roads. Edit: Circled around outside Whiterun and only came across two groups of Draugr--one was a squad-size and the other was a tiny group of three. If there's someone more familiar with the mod, maybe they can explain what the deal is.
NNS10 Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 Hate to triple post, but here's a different question: What working mods are there to make all NPCs killable? Only ones I have are ones that make essential NPCs protected. That's fine if it's the player wreaking havoc, but if it's the Draugr, protected NPCs won't be killed by them.
