Gigatron Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I'm sorry for this noob question, but I've tried everything and failed. I searched for answers here but nothing I could found to fit my same situation. I tried the advices anyway, and with poor results, so I'm trying to ask directly now. My problem is: I have a character (she is a Breton), I want to make her have a unique skin texture. I know this can be achieved with custom races, but I cannot make it work with ECE at all. Always the face ends up deformed. I was able to get a little bit close, but vertex edit did not work so the character was still deformed. I want to know, what is the correct procedure to do this? I want to just make a perfect duplicate of vanilla Breton race working with ECE just as vanilla, but that it points to a different texture path so it can be used with a unique skin texture. Thank you very much for any help, and again I apologise for noob question... Cheers EDIT: Also alternate question: What I am trying to do is give my character pure white skin (like chalk white), in ECE you can make a very pale character but not pale enough. Does RaceMenu allow more pure colours for skin? I ask this because I am thinking of changing to RM if it can do what I need.
gvman3670 Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 ECE comes with the ygNord race built in. Use that instead of Breton and you'll have the unique file path you're looking for. The headmesh is a little bit of a "cuter" shape, too. Try that and see how it goes. It does have a non-nude base mesh/texture set, but you'll probably be replacing that. Fairskin is a very good one to try if you want a pale, clean looking skin texture. It will be a manual swap of meshes and textures of course. You just "normally" install another texture set to give that to all the other vanilla races. Go into ECE/(meshes or textures)/actors/character/ and you'll find the appropriate folders for the meshes and textures.

After many hours of tweaking and experimenting, I have edited YgNord to be a copy of Breton race, but with custom meshes and textures. It's almost working perfectly, except one thing, when I use setrace command (to preserve stats), the body texture changes, but not the face. The only way I could change the face was to manual select YgNord in showracemenu, which destroys my stats. Is there a way to change the race to show the new texture, without ruining stats? Or the best way is to select a new race and fix stats manually by console? EDIT: Never mind, I found the way, with "Showracemenu Alternative" mod which keeps your stats. Now my character is perfect, thank you again for the great help!

You could've achieved the same thing with Custom Races by simply installing it, picking which race you want to customize and drop in textures and meshes. Yes, Custom Races also worked nicely with Racemenu, btw. Also, my beef with showracemenu Alternative is that it's not been updated for a very long time, and that the author just... kind of disappeared and hence no tech support.

I though of this, but I don't know yet if I will change to Racemenu. I really like the features of it, especially overlays (and I was happy to see vertex is now included), but I'm too afraid to risk losing or ruining the characters I made with ECE. It's too much work fine-tuning them. Maybe there will be no problem, but I'm still afraid to try. I tried Custom Races, but it's very difficult to make it work with ECE. At least, for me, when I tried to follow the instructions, the result was a total mess. For showracemenu Alt, it did what I needed to do, so now I can disable it for now and just stick to regular showracemenu.
gvman3670 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Did you notice an update to ECE? There is one on Nexus.
