ElvenScoundrel
Hey guys! Â So, I've always been interested in modding, specifically making armor, clothing and weapons for FO:NV. I have some basic Blender knowledge and I can import/export .nif files with ease to Blender. My question is, are there any tutorials for newbies? I know SOME basic Blender stuff, but knowing more wouldn't hurt. I'd also love to learn how to make stuff from existing in-game stuff, like a custom gun by mixing & matching 2 or more guns, etc. Â I've been playing with so many awesome mods, I'd love to give back to the community :3 Link to comment

ElvenScoundrel
Well, I already HAVE blender, and the nifscrips thing, and I can import/export files, however I cannot edit the .nif files. Thanks for the links either way! Link to comment
prideslayer
You need the niftools plugin for blender, which is only available for an old version that I just cannot use no matter how many times I try.. 2.49 IIRC. There is a newer MAX plugin though (finally!) that works with MAX2012, though it's incomplete, I think it's enough to do models and maybe animation too. Â You can get MAX for free (non-commercial use) at their student site, and the last three versions (2010, 2011, 2012) are available. Maya too. Link to comment
Guest Loogie
http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=40980 is the Blender package Donkey uses, and is now the package I use. It has everything you need without grabbing multiple downloads and fucking around with old versions. Link to comment
prideslayer
Right, but that is the old shit-ass version of blender that I can't stand. 2.6 is bad enough, the older ones make me.. avatar. i'll stick with MAX. Link to comment
Guest Loogie
It's the only version I know, and while it does kind of suck, it works. Link to comment
ElvenScoundrel
I already have Blender and all the things needed to run it and import/export nif files. What I need is tutorials How to frankenstein weapons, armor and clothing from in game assets, etc. Link to comment
Guest Loogie
http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Creating_an_armour_for_Fallout._Part_1 is a good one for clothes, not sure about weapons though the principles would be the same. Link to comment
prideslayer
Well you said "I cannot edit the .nif files" so I assumed you did not have importing and exporting working, because that's all you need to have in order to edit them. Once they're imporated, you can do anything you want to them in blender editing wise, then you just need to export again when you're done. Â You can "frankenstein" as you put it, or you can start with meshes from other places entirely. The important bit will be getting the scale right (I believe one unit on any axis is roughly equal to 1cm in the game world), and getting the item rigged to the skeleton in the right place. Don't forget that for things like weapons you'll need two sets of animation exports; one for 3rd person, one for 1st person. Â You'll also need a different animation for at least walking, crawling, and running. Reloading and stuff like that is up to you and mostly just measures your patience. Â Â Link to comment
ElvenScoundrel
prideslayer, when I import a nif to Blender an press Tab to enter edit mode, I can't seem to select vertices on the mesh or anything, it looks as if it was still in Object mode, and no matter what I do I can't seem to edit the mesh... ElvenScoundrel
Yeah, sometimes I'm too stupid for my own good. I should've known right-clicking was the key! Again, thanks mate! Link to comment
