Papermix Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 So I recently downloaded a follower mod off Nexus, and it turns out the author forgot to localize the name of his follower. (his other followers work fine) Unfortunately, the mod adds foreign characters which turns into blocks. It corrupted my Save file and turned the savename into blocks as well, then CTD after trying to load it. I COULD just delete the follower, but I kind of like her. I was wondering if there was any way to use TES5 edit or any other means to rename her? (I don't have CK and don't want to redo my Data folder by downloading it) Any ideas? I opened just her .esm file in TESV edit, but don't know what to click on to edit her name. I tried to right click on the name, but it doesn't give me an option to edit. No idea how to go about this and couldn't find any guides on google.
XJ347 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Edit the mod in creation kit and rename it there. No idea if TS5Edit can do that or not, I don't use it other than for cleaning mods. EDIT: Ohhh, but that will not help you with your save. How about Remove the mod Clean your save Edit mod in CK to change name Load edited mod ??? Profit

I'm told it does.)
myuhinny Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I have never had any problem with having the CK (creation kit). You can also use TES5EDIT to do the changes. Just make sure that you change all spots that have her name to the correct one. Also make a copy of the .esp before you start messing with it so that you have a back up if you messed something up so that you can replace it with a good one.
XJ347 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I see, he has a cracked version... Well Skyrim is like 5 bucks on steam. /sigh
Papermix Posted December 23, 2014 Author Posted December 23, 2014 I see, he has a cracked version... Well Skyrim is like 5 bucks on steam. /sigh Well, no, I don't. I read that you have to remod your Skyrim once you install it. I'd appreciate you not making rude accusations just based on what you THINK you know. If there is NO issue adding CK, then I have NO issue installing it. While I appreciate your attempt to help me, I don't appreciate your comments.

The problem was that I wasn't sure how to edit it, since the only option it gave me was to add columns and whatnot, or edit form ID. But if you're saying CK doesn't mess with my existing files, then I'll just use that.
TnTTnT Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Never edit name of NPC or follower but used to use TES5Edit to change armor name from Japanese. You just slow double click on the field that you want to change (in this case Japanese character), TES5Edit should popup window asking you confirmation, just wait a few seconds until the right confirm button activate, click it and change the name as you like.
XJ347 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I'm just saying you looked HIGHLY suspicious. You never said you couldn't use the CK in the original post. Then when I suggest the CK, you say you can't use it. You looked like you were covering. 99.99% of the time that means the person has a cracked version of Skyrim. My apologies, I didn't mean to offend. You are the 0.001% that didn't use the CK, not because you didn't have it, but because you were misinformed about it. I recommend downloading the CK and trying it out. It is scary at first but once you get the hang of it, it is surprisingly easy.

I didn't really think to say it because it wouldn't have made sense to. To say I couldn't use it, would imply I tried it.. and why would I try it if I'm afraid it would wipe all of my hard work getting my game to run? But thank you, I will use CK instead.
XJ347 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Let me write a small guide for you real quick....
Papermix Posted December 23, 2014 Author Posted December 23, 2014 Let me write a small guide for you real quick.... Actually I would appreciate that. I got CK running but am lost as to what to do.
XJ347 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Open CK Click load (open folder icon) top left icon on the tray Find your addon name. Click it and hit Set as Active Hit OK next The base game has a few errors in it, don't stress when the CK says there are errors. Hit Yes To All to ignore the warnings. Now you should have 3 windows, Object window, Cell view, and Render Window In the Object window on the top left has a filter, type aaa (you are looking up your custom NPC and from the screenshot the name you are looking up is aaaFollowerPhew) Now select Actors Your NPC should show up as aaaFollowerPhew Double click it Right under the ID aaaFollowerPhew should be your corrupted name. Enter a new name in the name section... Hit ok at the bottom of the NPC info box Hit the save button at the top That's it...
XJ347 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Let me know if something something doesn't work or need more instructions. I will keep my eye open for updates. Edit: I will even download the mod and take a peek at it myself and see if there are any other oddities that might trip you up, other than the NPC name.
XJ347 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Looks like you need to change the name and short name from フェイ to Phey for both. The race has no odd characters in it. So those two are the only changes. IF you give up... I did it for you Follower - Phey.esp

Mine had something like 3 separate instances of a ton of errors, is that normal? But hey! She was renamed in game! A few more question if you don't mind. Whenever I edit these plugin, does it edit any other files besides the plugin? I noticed skyrim and update esm were checked, it doesn't do anything but modify the plugins I make active right? (Basically I am asking that if I ruin something up when I save changes to a plugin, will I only have to delete the plugin to remedy things?) Also, unfortunately it renamed Hall of the dead too! Where to find that to rename? Thanks, English is not my first language EDIT: I look at your file, but it didn't load anything in creation kit
XJ347 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 100% normal to see a TON of errors. The errors don't effect game play so Besesda didn't waste time removing them. You ONLY edit the file you select "Set as Active". If you activate many ESMs and have no mod "set as Active" then when you will save your modifications it will ask you to name your new esp. When you have Skyrim.ESM, Update.ESM and Follower - Phey.esp, what is happening is that Follower - Phey.esp modifies the files from both Skyrim and Update. They don't change the original files though, which is why load order is important. When Follower - Phey.esp is below the other two, it's modifications are used.

Thank you very much, I cannot find the location she spawn in in CK, but it is editable in TES5, so I will try to edit it there, but for future reference, where would I edit the spawn name (hall of dead in whiterun is in japanese)

Load mod This is done in the cell view box World Space -> Interiors In the EditorID which is the location, find the location she is that. As you said its WhiterunHouseoftheDead* Note the * means that it is an edited cell by this mod. right click WhiterunHouseoftheDead Hit Edit Select Interrior Data Tab Name section, rename it "Hall of the Dead" or whatever. Hit ok Save

Now I will try to follow a character start guide to try and make her playable ^.~ Thanks again
XJ347 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 That can be tricky... IF the person used ECE face vertex edit then that is out of my league.
