Ailsa Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 My brother has recently installed two SSDs in my pc and I am having problems. He suggested that I should ask for advice about drivers, boot discs and TRIM for Raid0 SSD arrays on 7 series motherboards. As I don't understand a word of the above I would be very grateful for any information and advice you could share with me. When the SSDs were first installed Win rated everything as 7.9, but now 4 weeks later my main drive is rated at 5.9. Thank you in advance for your help.
Susanoo27 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Start-Button -> Search for "cmd" -> right click: "run as administrator" -> click on: "yes" -> enter this line and press enter: fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify Does it return: DisableDeleteNotify = 0 If not than please post which ssd are used.
Ailsa Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 Yes it does. What does that mean please
Susanoo27 Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Yes it does. What does that mean please That TRIM is activated. For information about TRIM look at Wikipedia. Hm as I'm not an expert about RAID I could think about following issue: Retry to rate again (maybe in the background was a write or read process which would lower the rating) Download the actually driver for the motherboard
Ailsa Posted November 24, 2014 Author Posted November 24, 2014 Thank you very much indeed, I really appreciate your help
Rayblue Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 As an aside, if you're using SSDs, always have Crystal Disk Info because it can help you keep an eye on your drive's condition (and see if the drives are using TRIM and NLQ properly).
Ailsa Posted November 24, 2014 Author Posted November 24, 2014 Thank you Rayblue - I have looked Crystal Disk Info up and will examine it in the morning, thank you again My poor pc is built by committee (sort of). My baby brother visits, banishes me from the room my pc is in for several hours and I come back to find all sorts of different things going on, then a month or two later my cousin will upgrade his gaming rig and add his old (but still new to me) bits to the build my brother has done. Sometimes, if I am lucky, they will even discuss what they are doing with each other

The problem with Win7 rating is that it combined Read and Write speed. Also it would be interesting if you did something with the PC since the upgrade from your brother (like updating)? Did he reinstalled your Windows?
Ailsa Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 I think and hope that he would have done whatever is appropriate, and the SSDs had only been used for 5 weeks before I was given them. They both work in computing and according to the guys at the local computer shop are both rather good at what they do. Thank you for your concern and I will raise it with my brother. I myself am moderately ancient (18 years older than him) and normally I end up with a pc that enables me to play games on high or even ultra, and works really well for my design work.
Susanoo27 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Hm in this case it isn't that bad, but still say should talk with each other on what they are doing. Post the information from Crystal Disk Info, pls.
Ailsa Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 I have my friend from the computer store coming over next week to have a look at what has been done - fortunately he adores my big rescue dog and doesn't charge me for visits I will get the information from Crystal Disk Info when I have finished the wedding dress I am working on - hand embroidery exhausts me
