Is there a "Lets play Skrim" video modded out LL style?

Recommended Posts

I'm talking with all the fun Sexlab mods.

http://www.dailymotion.com/zhakaron

This is the only place where any even attempts gameplay. (you have to scroll to the bottom of the page and set the age gate off to access the good videos (all marked part B).

Naughty Machima doesn't have actual game play, just vignettes.

I'm experimenting with Bandicamp right now, But it will be a while. Has anyone else posted actual game play with mods from Lovers Lane?

I've given some thought to this but its hard to do on Youtube due to content policies.

Overall the biggest issue with this kind of content LP is the amount of just pure pornography involved, I suppose that kind of thing could be uploaded to pornhub or something but...its not functionally beneficial to the uploader to do so as the ad revenue would basically all go in the pocket of pornhub.

While making an LP series based around LL doesn't specifically have to be focused on potential revenue, it does take a fair amount of time to record and edit out video content into a series thats worth watching, and without having a reliable place to share that where the creator might get something other than a few anonymous thank yous is kind of a quandry.

Overall its all about having an appropriate venue. Zhakaron's videos don't really do the work here justice, any guy that has to do his LP's in a suit and tie to try to communicate that hes totally a straight up dude that doesn't get turned on by pixel boobs is definitely trying too hard to get that message across. Also the referential from Zhakaron's videos is that the content produced here is the some of the "worst mods" made for Skyrim and he only uses them to "show people what the mods do"...though I'm sure he hasn't complained about the view counts either seeing as they're the only mainstream...and extremly BAD examples of what this community does.

So...completely long winded and overwordy but yes, I'd like to have the time to sit down and put out a start to finish series that doesn't make the mods here look like 1) Jokes or 2) Badly concepted amateur CGX for the simple purposes of being wank material...but again, theres a lot of time involved in that, and then theres the whole concern about hosting on a reliable site that doesn't have loading buffers every 20 seconds for 15 seconds (Naughtymachina for example) or won't simply exploit the series for its own enrichment with nothing in return to the original designer.....so..yeah, its a complex thing to do. You can't just stream this stuff on Twitch and cut up VOD's and put them on Youtube after all.

How attached are people to the whole video concept?

What if an images and album format is used instead?

It is not an LP in the most traditional sense, but it does allow for some easier hosting solution and can afford some creative editing.

Not sure how much the player will have to do when compares with editing an video or just upload it without any cutting.

I used to run a blog here that did story based screenshot stuff, it wasn't too badly received.

Screenshots as a medium as compared to video can actually take even more time because instead of just naturally flowing through the game and cutting out the 'dead bits' where not much is going on to keep it interesting for people that might be viewing it, screenshot story boarding takes a lot of planning and pose work to get right then you have to post process all the images into whatever format you want to use whether its some kind of graphic novel or just a straight..heres a picture and heres a paragraph kind of thing.

Overall the level of actual work between one or the other is about the same, its just on one side most of the work is going on in game where you have to spend a lot of time setting up your shoots to make them interesting, and on the other side, most of your time is spent playing and the other part of it is spent in the editing process. The screenshot method has an editing process as well but as long as you've set up some good actions for your shots its usually just a process of loading your source images, running your actions on them, then uploading them somewhere that won't go offline three months from now and leave you with a bunch of broken links to try to salvage.

Well for a screenshot playthrough I am not thinking about crafting a comic or novel to tell a story, but rather a regular playthrough where the player goes through the game just like a Let's Play, but take actual game screenshot on whatever relevant/interesting things the playthrough come across.

Even in LP the "camera" work is usually gameplay camera anyways, so I don't think every screenshot needs special action cam with poses.

It is just a lower tech solution.

The work that I see is that the player at the end of each session need to dig through the screen folder and need to remember what happened and make comment on some of them.

Story/RP optional I guess.

I mean it is less "fluid" but wonder if it'll serve the purpose.

I absolutely couldn't disagree more.

I've done both screenshot stories and video. When I do video it's as close to literal work as can be...and takes as much time. Screenshot stories OTOH are for me quite a diversion from that work, when I get tired of all the tedium of video making and want to do something quick and fun

I think that depends on the level of video quality you're talking about. The OP is talking about a LP style video of a Skyrim playthrough using associated LL mods. LP videos don't take a large amount of production planning, all the really require is the ability to jump cut through dead parts of a raw video file which is literally takes nearly no work at all other than watching through a raw capture and slicing out dead bits to keep the video viewable. Now if you're doing full on machinima, editing in voice work, setting up scenes and what not, that takes a lot more time and a lot more work. But it goes without saying that the work Tyrannicon did, and the work that MxR does are two different styles of video entirely....so obviously one takes more work than the other.

Screenshot work is easy, if you don't obsess on visual consistence and ensuring you're producing high quality imagery on every single shot. When I was doing screenshot stories, the first picture of 10 or 12 pictures in a set would literally be one of about 50 different source captures of the exact same pose or scenario from multiple different angles and fov points with 49 of those shots thrown out to find the exact right shot that got the right light, the right angle and the right expressions/pose/head tracking angle...blah blah blah, then out of the pictures that made the cut as source images I have to work all of those in photoshop for consistent image quality and lighting, and the per-requisite blur brushing out jagged edges that no amount of antialiasing seems to remove...softening hair's...there was a lot to it. And I don't even think my screenshots are that good compared to some people in this community that do amazing work, but I still put a lot of effort into them to ensure they were passably acceptable.

Regardless screenshots are easier than planned machinima, but LP content is easier than both, it just requires time to play and very minor editing.
