Successful load ~> CTD after restarting game

I always experience this strange problem where I would be able to load the game perfectly fine the first time in MO then I close the game and start again, not making any changes at all, only to CTD until I restart my computer or by luck manage to load it.

 

Anybody know what could possibly be going on?

I am loading up a clean save with no mods or anything previously used on it.

Do you have PreCacheKiller skse plugin installed? The one that smoothes out the hair load. I experienced something like your problem when I installed one too many hair packs.

I used to CTD a lot when I loaded saves. On the main menu, open up the console and type 'coc ctest2' or any other cell you want and then load your game from that cell.

If a gamesave CTDs on me, especially if it's heavily modded or after experiencing an in-game CTD, I restart the game again, but COC first to qasmoke, then load up the gamesave. This probably clears up the memory or cache.

Yeah I have the precache killer installed. I have like 500 hairstyles from like 3 mods.

well it seems COC on the menu then loading works, I wonder why I have to do this every time.

It's  a mystery. Something to do with NPCs (because loading in an empty cell works 100% of the time) and probably animations (because the more you have, the more it's prone to crash).

If it's about that vanilla bug that Skyrim has, make sure you don't have the save in these situations

 

1) Too many NPCs around you

2) Too wide a space (as in the world space or a  huge home)

3) Too many clutter

4) Too many lighting source around

 

You'll crash so bad it's not funny. Applying all those performance mods help somewhat but it's preferable to have a backup save that has all the four situations above eliminated. Somewhere a small room where there's only your player character. Check that the save load perfectly. When your game crash on load. Load up that backup save. Make sure it loads perfect. Wait a couple of seconds and then load the save you want. That is what I do.

 

Rarely, the save will get hit with the bug too but a restart is probably needed if you have played for long hours beforehand. It's usually the computer memory that you may need to clear and not the save cache at this point.

BTW, whenever a CTD happens usually it leaves some junk files somewhere in the Mesh folder.

Oh, so it is a problem regardless of mods. Well the 2 weeks trying to figure out why this happens is wasted but at least I managed to cut down a few mods.

 

Also is there a precache equivalent for the smithing menus? I am not CTDing but it gets pretty dam laggy.

 

Oh yeah is there a way to fix nav meshes? My followers won't follow me leaving riverwood for some reason.
