RaulCuevas Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Hello, I've been using the version of Sexlab 1.14 for a long time. Recently I installed SKSE 1.71, so I'm considering updatew to the latest version. But I have to say, I've been extremely careful with my current playthrough, I have not uninstalled ANY mod, much less ones that adds/modifies scripts, since I dread CTD's, and I have a fairly stable game. My question is, it's convenient to just install the new version of Sexlab without other procedement, or it will mess my save, are the two versions different in the core? And, if the latest question answer is no, then I have to uninstall, use the Savegame cleaner, and then install everything from scratch? I'm scared to do that, since I prefer to have my save clean since the beggining, rather than using a utility to clean it. Have somebody did that when updating from 1.14 to 1.59b that can confirm it's safe? Thanks you, and sorry for the bother!
Ashal Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 From that old of a version I'd reccomend completely uninstalling it first. Load your save with 1.14 Make sure you aren't in any sexlab scenes Run the rebuild function from SexLab's MCM Save your game into a new slot and quit Disable SexLab and all related mods. Run FNISforUSERs Load your save game - if you had a lot of SexLab Mods installed before disabling them in the previous step you may crash a few times when attempting to load the save, it should eventually work however Wait a minutre or two after loading for everything to finish loading Save your game into a new slot Run PapyrusScript Scalpel http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/53045/? on the save file to remove unattached instances and unidentified classes (follow it's instructions carefully) Reload the save after cleaning with with PSP, it'll be the one the save starts with "EDIT_" Wait a minutre or two in game before saving your game into a new slot again. Install SexLab 1.59b and ONLY SexLab 1.59b Obviously also make sure you have installed 1.59b's updated requirements, SKSE 1.7.1+, newest version of FNIS, Unofficial Skyrim Patches, SkyUI, etc etc. Run FNISforUSERS Load cleaned+resaved file and let SexLab 1.59b finish it's install process Save your game Install the newest version of SexLab MatchMaker to verify everythings working. After testing SexLab MatchMaker in game to see if everything's working, install the latest version of other mods you want to use, after double checking they are compatible with newer versions of SexLab.
RaulCuevas Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 Thanks you for the fast answer!I have to ask, if I follow each step carefully, will it be 100% safe, or I may have even a small degree of unstability?
Ashal Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 If you follow steps exactly and appropriately, it should be as if you never had 1.14 installed to begin with and you're installing SexLab 1.59 on a save that's never had it before. That's the point of running Papyrus Script Scalpel, it removes traces of uninstalled mods scripts from the same. There is no accounting for how all these steps might negatively affect other non sexlab mods you have installed however. If you've kept a relatively clean save that you've been keeping other mods properly updated/installed, it should come out fine, or at worst just require some minor tinkering with with other mods you have installed or running script scalpel some more. And no offense but considering you were still running 1.14 I'm willing wager you don't have a relatively clean save in that respect, in which case I wouldn't be surprised if you run into a few problems, but the steps to fix them are the same as the steps to fix any problem in Skyrim: check your mods for missing dependencies, check papyrus debug log for related errors, uninstall any problematic mods going crazy in the debug log, save into a new slot and run it through script scalpel, repeat the process till clear; repeating the ->uninstall any problem mods in log->save new slot->script scalpel. And if you're a heavy mod user and are still using NexusModManager or no mod manager at all, I'd argue it's worth it to throw it all out the window and start fresh by deleting your Skyrim folder entirely, verify Skyrim files from Steam to redownload a fresh copy of the data folder, install SKSE from archive, clean your vanilla ESM files with TES5Edit, install ModOrganizer, download+install all the mods you used previously in NMM with MO.
RaulCuevas Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 It took me a while, been off Skyrim some time, and I came back to happily report and btw, I'm sorry we did not wager, 'cause I'm actually extremely careful with my save this is the first time I did uninstall a mod mid playthrough (after discovering a crashy mod in the last one, removing and starting over, losing like 30 hours of playtime), and I have only added a extra mod since (Immersive Wenches) and some hairs added via CK to a custom esp I use. I had a very old version of Sexlab because it worked and I justo didn't check for updates or install any new plugin for a long time. Anyway, I followed the instructions step by step. I only needed to run the Scalpel one time, and all it took was to click te button to remove the scripts from uninstalled mods. I did not once crash during loading, and everytime I loaded a cleaned save I checked also the papyrus script and double checked for orphaned scripts with the other save cleaning program in Nexus (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52363/?). The only "issue" I had is that when loading a save, the removed mods where still listed in the MCM, but after waiting some minutes in game, those would dissapear by themselves. After I sorted everything out, installed version 1.59b and reactivated all my mods, I had a play session of 5 hours, one of them was for testing sex scenes in all scenarios possible, and then a normal playthrough with occasional sexy stuff going on. Not even crashed once. So, I can confirm it's totally safe, and I hope the info will be useful for someone else
