Help extracting .bsa files and modifying hats <_< - Solved

Hey! Apologies in advance if there's a better place to post this kind of stuff, just didn't feel like something I'd ask over at the Technical Support forum.

Is there a way to open/extract .bsa's? I want to extract a Witch Hat item/object/mesh from a packed .bsa to -try- and make it so the hat won't make my character bald when I wear it.

Further down the line I'll probably be back to ask a few questions regarding the process of actually tweaking the hat, I assume in Nifskope, given I have little to no experience with that program at all, or skyrim modding for that matter lol.

But for now... a nice, reliable way to unpack (and then repack I suppose?) .bsa files would be grand enough :)

Thanks a ton in advance!

EDIT: I'm using Mod Organizer, and I just realized that there is an option to extract .bsa files directly from MO. My problem with this is that I'm very paranoid of (and prone to) breaking things lol... and I don't know how the mod would work afterwards, if I have to somehow re-pack the .bsa, or I can run the mod without the .bsa or... something. Any help with that would also be immensely appreciated!

As long as the BSA is repacked using the same content & file structure it should work fine. However you don't necessarily need to repack it for the mod to work - unpacked files will take precedence, so if your original file is located inside a BSA but you also have an extracted version of the same file in an equivalent directory then the latter will be used in-game.

Hey Zadil! Haven't seen you around as much!

Oh okay. Yeah I just tried all the tweaks and the mod seems indeed to be working just fine, so I just went ahead and deleted the .bsa (kept the backup in the form of the original .7zip file though just in case things get serial). I also managed to get the hats showing -with- hair and everything, so it's all good now :D

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, I'm rarely active outside the DD Assets thread anymore lately...

Glad to be able to help, and feel free to pm me whenever you need help regarding small technical issues like this.
