Guest marieruth Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Is there a way to be able to run NVSE without Steam forcing itself to go online and running the New Vegas Launcher instead? It fucks with the Fallout.ini file and it's just rather annoying. I only had this occur after Steam did its most recent update. Are there any sort of bypasses for that? I don't like being on Steam when playing games if I have the choice to. Or did Steam make that a permanent thing that you can't avoid?
Odessa Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 You have to run nvse_loader.exe not FalloutNV.exe, but maybe you knew that. I think FOMM does it automatically, but if it doesn't work you can manually set it to load that. I have an issue with the FNV 4GB loader, it worked once but mysteriously stopped and I can't get it to load NVSE now- after going through all the troubleshooting it still doesn't work. So I don't use it. The NVSE (and 4GB) loaders modify the vanilla .exe in RAM, which is how a lot of viruses work, meaning anti-virus can (incorrectly) interfere. Worth checking, although for me uninstalling AVG didn't fix 4GB.

I ran ran nvse_loader.exe with steam not running at all, and then the pop-up for Steam's start up displayed, and the New Vegas launcher showed. But when I ran NVSE again it actually ran without going to the launcher. I guess for now I must have Steam open when I play or at least to not mess up my INI files. :\ I have used both NVSE and the FNV 4GB loader with no problems before, so I'm thinking it's Steam. I guess I'll just have to disable the annoying pop-ups and stuff. My computer is quite old. I thought maybe somebody found a bypass for it since nothing like this has happened to me before until a few days ago.
Odessa Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 If you use nvse_loader it still validates your copy via STEAM- otherwise it would circumvent the DRM, which I'm guessing Bethesda wouldn't be happy about. You have to be logged in to STEAM already or it will launch the STEAM loader instead.
Guest carywinton Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I use the "older" version of FOMM and have none of these issues at all. I can use both the 4GB enabler and NVSE without incident or issue. Odessa is correct, Steam has to be running first, but you can "disable" it's overlay and this will help on older computers quite a bit. I also set up a custom load for this configuration within FOMM. Use the custom launch feature in FOMM, go to Settings, then Custom Launch Command box, put in the entire path to the New Vegas directory, example "Drive letter\Steam\SteamApps\Common\FalloutNewVegas\fnv4gb.exe". Note the "fnv4gb.exe" at the end instead of the nvse_loader.exe. Also make sure to copy fnv4gb.exe and fnv4gb_helper.dll to this directory as well.
jaam Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 You cannot run NVSE without steam. Start steam and set it to offline if you want, but if it is not running it will be started which then leads to the FNV launcher.
