Oblivion Crashes for no reason

Hey,

 

I never had problems with oblivion, I mostly fixed everything myself, but at the moment im completly clueless. I hope I can get some help here.

So, I installed Midas Magic Companions and Vampire Race Reloaded because of Vilja, then for no reason and no matter if disabled or enabled my game starts crashing. Things I tried:

- Reinstalling

- Starting a new game without ANY mod enabled (crash before Prison Intro with HGEC BBB enabled, after Prison Intro with HGEC BBB disabled)

- Going through OBMM Errors (nothing found)

 

After Reinstallling Oblivion started ordinary one time, even with the MIdas and Vilja mod enabled. Because NPCs HGEC BBB and Roberts male body replacer meshes and textures for NPCs were glitched, I resstarted and started Archive invalidation since it always fixes stuff. Again, Oblivion started crashing instantly even after selecting a clean savefile. Disabling Archive Invalidation will result in the same thing.

 

I REALLY dont know whats wrong. I only guess its something with HGEC body, or the skeleton but thats just a really small guess.

My Load order is really f*cked up I guess. I had Nehrim and DR installed before and uninstalled both and never had problems.

EDIT: I had some cameraproblems which were solved by reinstalling, but i think this is not a reason to crash.

 

EDIT 2: After a lot of trying, It seems using HGEC without BBB makes oblivion load "further" before crashing. Before it Instantly crashes at the beginning at the loadscreen, with BBB animations disabled it loads to a third.

You my friend, to put it bluntly, made a fiasco out of it

Your load order is a complete mess, which means your install order and thus present files are also a mess.

But it's okay, we will fix it.

 

if you follow these steps, you will have everything working.

 

1) uninstall oblivion and delete the entire folder where it was installed, so every installed mod gets deleted as well.

2) Install Oblivion, then the DLCs

3) install OBSE

4) Install all the unofficial paches.

5) Make a backup copy of your Data folder which you can restore if things get screwed up so you don't have to do everything from scratch again.

6) Install every mod you want (but none from this website yet). DO NOT install archive invalidation invalidated. That is an obsolete method and mod, which will cause problems.

7) Go to BSA-redirection. and follow the steps for OBMM or Wrye Bash, but NOT both together.

8) Go to http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/354-lapf/ scroll down a bit until you find Install Instructions:. Open the spoiler and follow CAREFULLY the instructions.

9) Install any other LAPF plugin you want, but ALWAYS read and follow the instalation instructions to the letter.

10) Set your load order like this:

If you don't want something from this list, it's fine.

If you install anything that is not in this load order (this is my personal load order with everything working perfectly) Make sure to set them above TamagoPlayerHUDkil.esp unless you know what you are doing.

 

I don't have EVERY LAPF plugin installed, so here is a load order with (almost) all of them. It shows you where to place each LAPF plugin in relation to each other. for non LAPF mods, follow what I said above.

It looks like I fixed it tho, BBB Animations disabled make everything work "fine". Still gonna reinstall though. Thank you for your time!

 

Any Idea why my first person camera is really glitched now though? I cant see Limbs and the camera floats 4 meters above ground.

The fact that it works if you disable BBB Animation, means that BBB Animations are improperly installed, most likely because of wrong install order.

 

Just because it runs, doesn't mean it's good however. If the wrong version of a file is present (from bad install order) it might crash on the spot, or it might screw something up later on and make you regret it. So it's good you will reinstall following those steps. It will save you a lot of hurt in the long run.

 

As for your first person camera... read above wrong versions of files from bad installation order and/or bad load order.

Another good tool to use is TES4EDIT http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/11536/? download it unzip it and run the .exe that is in it. It will attempt to load everything that you have installed in your game if it hits a error in your load order it will stop and give you a reason why in the bottom left hand area. Read it fix it close TESEDIT and repeat starting the .exe till it no longer hits anymore errors then try your game again. One of the main errors you can get is missing/out of order masters. A master is a .esp/.esm that is needed for another mod to run if you have that master under the one needing it that will cause a CTD.

Yes that's a good tool, but it has limits.

 

TES4EDIT only warns you if you try to load a mod before it's dependency. (like loading a patch to mod xx, before loading mod xx). However, it doesn't tell you what load order you need to have a conflict free game. (For example, you can load LoversIdleAnimsPriority.esp before Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul, but don't be surprised when the NPCS will attack you during sex, even if your settings is to stop combat.

 

Regarding CTDs:

They always happen because of a missing resource.

That can happen in 2 ways:

1) Bad installation, and a file that a mod requires is literally missing or is overwritten with a different version from another mod.

or

2) a mod is trying to load resources that don't yet exist, because a required mod has not yet been loaded (bad load order). This can be diagnosed with TES4EDIT but as I said above, it's limited.
