Need tips on finding specific NPCs in the GECK

Recommended Posts

I'm working on a side project to make the female raiders

better looking. The problem I'm having is identifying which characters

are actually in the game in a specific area. There appear to be more

way more NPCs in the GECK than there are in the game, so just converting

every female raider means that quite a few never show in the game.

Some may have been killed already and don't respawn, but it seems like there aren't

that many different variations in NPC's. I've tried looking at the ID for specific NPCs in

the developers console, but I couldn't find any way to make use of that number within

the GECK.

I've made some pretty hot looking women, and I'm going to share my work here when I'm

done, so help a brother out and you will be rewarded :)

If you are doing it for TTW, you should look for Leveled raiders because only they are present in the gameworld. Leveled raiders are consist of ordinary raiders.

Just type "raider" and sort everything by "Count". Count = how many that particular objects are present in gameworld.

So leveled lists are consisted of oridnary formID raiders and these ordinary raiders use templates(postfix "TEMPLATE"). Bad thing is - they user everything except model\animation and that means that in order to change their appearance you'll have to edit each of them.

If you find an NPC in game, and click on them in the console, it shows the FormID of that reference, which probably isn't very useful. If you type:

gbo

(or longhand: GetBaseObject)

I think it will tell you the FormID of the NPC, which you can write down. Then in the GECK, sort NPCs by FormID (you may have to expand the field to see it) and you should be able to find them.

Although the alternative suggestions are probably a better way.

I use sliders in the GECK, I also use the right click feature

in the face editing screen to grab vertex points and move them

(which is powerful but a bit dangerous).

I always start with an interesting looking pair of eyes and let

the rest of the face follow, and work with no hair on the model.

If you can make her look good with no hair, she'll look great with hair.

These are a couple of Fiend girls I did for a bit of a gag project I'm

working on; basically a band of urchins that will mug you for your sweets

"Give us all your Nuka Cola and gumdrops or else!"

(I've since fixed the color mismatch and found more age appropriate attire)
