Body texture turning purple, [VRAM Issue?]

XDA

So whenever I resume a saved game. The colour is correct, but after a few seconds, 3-5 seconds, the body texture turns purple. The texture itself seems to be correct, but the colour changes...

My character is not sick

Looks like this:

And after a few seconds:

I've read on a few other fora, like nexus. Seems like it's a common issue with textures turning purple, and is related to excessive VRAM usage.. I'm not sure though...

Any help would be appriciated..

On a final note, I have no other trouble with my mods (there quite a few).. I've used BOSS to sort them, and everything seems in order.

Not sure if that is the problem however possible.

Remove some textures or use lower res textures where it don't matter as much. Clutter and such. See how that works. or you can use this I myself haven't used it as I haven't had any textures or game issues with my rig. I have heard it used at a few locations.

I for one would use lower textures in the world space (outside) and some small clutter like fruit and such. Keeping the higher textures on the armors, weapons and such that I decide is more worthy of the added stresses to my machine. Did that with FNV when I had a weaker machine. (less vram) Meant me opening the textures folder (extracting the bsa if needed) and then moving the lower res options over to the folder I was working on until I found a very nice balance of better res for some and terrific res for others. A nice "blend". It is a bit old school if the program works properly there might not even be a reason to do this.

This is all based on the assumption that indeed this is a texture issue and not some mapping or such issue. Most I have seen with purple shows no real detal of the texture as your face does.

Yeah, that's what have me thinking aswell. All of the detail is still there...

I am using a more shiny map, than what the body texture originally came with, dunno if that could be the problem.. Right now I'm trying out that program, so far it's resulted in 500mb's less usage from textures. Not sure if that's major or minor..

I will report back :)

Good luck. I really don't know much more that what I gave you. Hope you figure this out. I believe I have seen some others have this issue. I think one guy / gal was using racemenu or something like that.

If you do fix it it would be nice if you posted it as an answer. I believe it could help others.

Hmm. The program crashes on me when I try to optimize the ´BSA files.

So the texture optimizing didn't work.. Also I tried to remove my mapping... Didn't work either..

Trying to start a new game now.. If that doesn't work I'll proberly reinstall the whole ordeal...

re-install? why..

Hope you aren't using NMM.. :(

I know it would be more ideal to install everything manually... - But yes, I am using NMM.. Not sure which mods I shouldn't use it for though? :s

Other than manually installing mods you can use MO. MO treats many of these files as if they are manually installed except you can change the load order of not only the esp/esm but the actual texture, meshes and even sounds. It has a bigger learning curve but most can jump in and start doing well very shortly.

AND you can still use NMM to install the mods provided you use MO to open that program. Also I h ear that you can import many of the mods into MO as well. Don't know how to do that though.

Best of all.. the Skyrim folder is untouched. NO corruption or problems. Everything resides in MO. I have a few links in my sig. So far anybody that has tried it and i mean really tried it liked it.

Check the videos here to see if it is worth you playing with it. It can't be that bad when GEMS likes it. ;)

I've always used NMM and couldn't be bothered try using MO... Never knew there was a difference.. Thanks! I will try this out.. I guess I'll have to reinstall skyrim completely now, to make sure it's all clean and good?

Anyways... So I ended up with even more problems... Whenever I started a new character.. The bodymod I'm using (CBBE) wouldn't engage... Characters would just show up with their original body (skyrim underware).. So yeaaahhhh.... COMPLETE REINSTALL \o/

If you want to experiment.

Uninstall what you can with the mod manager

Remove the mod manager.

Delete any remaining non Skyrim assets. Esp, Esm, BSA folders and such. You should be back to near original state. If there is any question on the folder or such delte that as well.

Verify cache which will restore any corrupted Skyrim game parts.

Test the game as it to make sure it works

Reload the base SKSE TESedit, CK etc what you need

Then choose the mod manager of choice and start over.

This works if you don't have a back up of the Skyrim game files. If you do uninstall the mods, Mod manager, Game through steam then delete the remaining files. (note anything left after the previous steps are likely the cause of your problems. :)) Reinstall the game, base tools (skse) and then the manager.

MO is great for Skyrim but it has a greater learning curve. Perhaps check the two videos here before deciding. Likely you will have to struggle a bit to get everything just right. The benefit is you won't have to reinstall the game because something goes wrong. Another benefit is you can change the priority of the mods on the fly where before you had to uninstall and reinstall them to get them in the order you needed. You can even hide files and finally you can have profiles. I would use one profile and play. If changes or updates (Skylab) occurred I can start a new game or even copy my current profile and test or play. In any event I can continue with my current rock solid profile until I get a new profile just as stable .. ;)

Thats right you can have several older versions of various mods running along side the newer versions until you are sure that your new setup is just the way you like it.

I've got a decent connection, so re-downloading skyrim is not much of a hassel.. I'll proberly make a steam backup of it though.. Right now I'm getting all of my mods, into MO.. I've watched the basic tutorial (30mins) so i've got a vague idea what I'm doing.. Though I'll be following the advanced for tips on  getting everything stable..

Also, I'll just have to take some smaller steps I guess, I'm a bit inpatient by nature :s

In the Skyrim Non Adult section there is a VERY active thread about MO and it's use. You should check it out and if you have questions just post them there. You're sure to get an answer that way.

Welcome to MO and modding the right way. :D

Yea... chances are "Crusty Gamer" above will be there to answer your questions almost as fast as you can post them... :). If not there are many others are there. It is very active and there is many ways to do the same task and most of the responders have many ways to respond... Give it a few minutes ( be patient ) and you can see all sorts of ways to solve your issues. Once you get the idea. which you are pretty knowledgeable so far.. you should be up and running quite quickly.
