elemental Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 So I recently updated a number of mods: - Sexlab to 1.54 - SKSE to 1.7.0 - FNIS to 5.0.2 - Random Sex, Prison Overhaul, Sexlab Submit, and Zaz Animation Pack to the latest versions (all support SL 1.54) Â After doing so, two out of my three characters are still working fine. Â The third one, and unfortunately also the one I've sunk the most hours into, no longer saves properly. Â Basically what happens is this: I can load the file fine, I can run around and play fine (and even run sexlab and its addons fine), but when I attempt to save, only an .ess file is generated. Â There is no .skse file. Â Trying to reload from the new .ess-only file results in a "corrupt save game" message and I get punted back to the Skyrim main menu. Â I've cleaned my savegame, cleaned my mods, cleaned my scripts, and reinstalled all of the new updates. Â The other two characters continue to play totally fine, but this one remains bugged. Â The only difference I can think of (besides the extra playtime) is that this character was parked inside a custom home when I did all the upgrades. Â There are no papyrus logs being generated (probably because there are no CTDs...?). Â The SKSE logs are below: Â Â SKSE runtime: initialize (version = 1.7.0 09200000 01CF620D4CEA477C, os = 6.1 (7601))imagebase = 00400000runtime root = C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\config path = C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\skse.iniplugin directory = C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\checking plugin C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\\CellStabilizer.dllplugin C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\\CellStabilizer.dll (00000001 Player Physics 00000001) loaded correctlychecking plugin C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\\Fuz Ro D'oh.dllplugin C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\\Fuz Ro D'oh.dll (00000001 Fuz Ro D'oh 06018195) loaded correctlychecking plugin C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\\MfgConsole.dllplugin C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\\MfgConsole.dll (00000001 Mfg Console plugin 00000002) loaded correctlychecking plugin C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\\StorageUtil.dllplugin C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Plugins\\StorageUtil.dll (00000001 papyrusutil plugin 00000001) loaded correctlyinit completehooked dinputReading translations from Interface\Translations\Lanterns Of Skyrim - elemental Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 Nevermind, there are papyrus logs.  I just wasn't looking in the right place.  That said, all the papyrus errors seem to show up for both working and non-working characters, so I don't think those errors are related to this problem.  In the SKSE log, the only differences I could find between the non-working character and the working ones are:  1) Non working character has an extra few lines:  cleared save pathsave name is quicksavefull save path: D:\Users\[uSERNAME]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves\\quicksave.skse  (Note [uSERNAME] is my computer username -- didn't want to post it as it's the username I use for a number of things)  2) Non working character has the load order slightly screwed up.  There's this line in it:  (66 -> 255) NusbieVoices.esp  -- despite that I've uninstalled NusbieVoices.  This throws the rest of the load order off by 1 digit.  I suspect this might have something to do with the problem I'm having, but I can't figure out how to get rid of the NusbieVoices "ghost".  Any suggestions are more than welcome!
Uriel Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 At that moment SKSE compares a current loadorder and one saved in the co-save to determine loadorder and mod changes, so it can load co-save data correctly. I'll check about this 255 thing. edit: yep, *->255 just means that this mod is not found in a current load order. But still, since NusbieVoices the only thing that changed, try to "Reset Voice Registry" in SL's MCM while this borked save is loaded.
elemental Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 Thanks for the info and the suggestion! Â Sadly I tried that and there was no improvement. Â For the record I also did disable all the mods above before attempting an update... not sure why this one char save is f'ed while the others were fine. Â Any idea why I have those extra "save path" lines in the log? Â Since it's a problem with a save not being generated, I'm wondering if that has something to do w/ the problem too.
Uriel Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 No, you're actually missing some stuff. That's how this looks in my case(i skipped the part that looks ok in your log. Differences start after the "full save path" string):  ....... Loading actor action event registrations...cleared save pathWidgetLoader.as: setRootPath(a_path = )WidgetLoader.as: loadWidget(a_widgetID = 0, a_widgetSource = skyui/activeeffects.swf)save name is Save 98 - Dumbass Sleeping Giant Inn 00.58.13full save path: C:\Users\Admin\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves\\Save 98 - Dumbass Sleeping Giant Inn 00.58.13.sksecreating co-saveSaving mod list:  .... my LO here, something like:    (0)   Some_perverted_Mod.esm    (1)   Some_perverted_Mod2.esp   (2)   Some_perverted_Mod3.esp   (3)   Some_perverted_Mod4.esp ....  Saving menu open/close event registrations...Saving key input event registrations...Saving control input event registrations...Saving mod callback event registrations...Saving crosshair ref event registrations...Saving camera event registrations...Saving actor action event registrations...cleared save pathdeleting co-save C:\Users\Admin\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves\\Save 96 - Dumbass Sleeping Giant Inn 00.53.48.skse  The underlined part is missing in your case somehow. That "deleting" line in the end is there because i overwrote save №96 with a new one, so Skyrim made a save №98 instead, and SKSE has deleted an old co-save №96.
elemental Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 Hrm. Â Well, I'm stumped. Â My other logs look similar to this one, except for the savepath being repeated in this one, and those work fine. Â I don't know what accounts for the difference. Â Any more suggestions on how to get the .skse file to start saving again? :\ Â Should also mention I've tried rolling back SKSE to the old version. Â Still couldn't save.
Uriel Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Dunno. I think something bad probably happens to SKSE after the loading. Still, what's in your papyrus logs? Maybe something will point us in the right direction? I think load that game in question, try to save, and post a log you get of this.
elemental Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 Good idea!  So I tried that -- actually I did it twice, once to get a papyrus log from a working char, and then once to get the log from the broken one.  There were warnings aplenty in both, but WAY more in the broken char.  Granted that char is also "frozen" in a pre-update save, so a lot of the errors are getting thrown due to the updates that are being loaded for what is the first time in relation to that save.  There were also a ton of errors/updates relating to the Destroy the Thieves Guild mod I have, which weren't appearing in the other save.  So I might try to disable that mod and see if that improves anything.  I can load the whole papyrus log if you want, but I'll warn you it's humongous.  The part that seems most relevant is this one, when I actually attempt a save:   [04/27/2014 - 07:54:15PM] VM is freezing...[04/27/2014 - 07:54:15PM] VM is frozen[04/27/2014 - 07:54:16PM] Saving game...[04/27/2014 - 07:54:16PM] Error: Failed to write stack frame 1 in stack 4120327 to save[04/27/2014 - 07:54:16PM] Error: Failed to write stack 4120327 to save game[04/27/2014 - 07:54:16PM] Error: Unable to write stacks to save game[04/27/2014 - 07:54:16PM] Errors occurred while saving the Papyrus save game data[04/27/2014 - 07:54:16PM] VM is thawing...   Compare that to what I get from a successful save:   [04/27/2014 - 07:58:30PM] VM is freezing...[04/27/2014 - 07:58:30PM] VM is frozen[04/27/2014 - 07:58:31PM] Saving game...[04/27/2014 - 07:58:31PM] VM is thawing...   So obviously something's going wildly wrong  I'll probably try to disable the quest mod and see if that helps, but tbh I'm starting to think maybe that's RIP for that character.  At least that playthrough is essentially complete (except for pointless repeating radiants), and I can still load up the last save I have and run around and admire my handiwork, LOL.  At this point I just wanna know what I did wrong so I can avoid it in the future.
davidporter89 Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 this is a long shot, i'll admit, but i have seen {vm is freezing...} {vm is frozen...} happen on saving before and it was because the guy had failed to uninstall some obsolete files that were still getting referenced. you can try creating an ini file for skse in data\skse\ by navigating there, right clicking empty space, select new, select "create new text file", name it skse.ini, then adding these two lines to the new .txt file.     [General]ClearInvalidRegistrations=1  don't forget to save! good luck!
elemental Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 Haha, yeah, I think I'm gonna give it a last ditch attempt of running one of those scary script cleaner mods, then turn on SKSE's ClearInvalidRegistrations, and then park the character in some small interior cell and just wait for like... an in-game month. Â Then if it's still broken I'll throw in the towel and remember not to install/uninstall so damn many mods on a single save in the future, LOL. Â Again, thanks to both of you for all the help. Â I'll post back here after I do all that and let you know how it turned out
davidporter89 Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 i would really appreciate it if you did let us know whats going after you try it, we are never done learning here.
elemental Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 Sadly, it didn't help... I used SaveTool and PapyrusDataTransfer both, cleared all invalid scripts, even terminated active scripts, and then turned ClearInvalidRegistrations on and went to qasmoke, then sat there and waited for 60 in-game days. Â After all that ..... I still couldn't generate a .skse co-save (same error in papyrus). Â I did notice papyrus was absolutely flooded with errors that looked like this, though: Â Â [ (000ECBFB)].critterSpawn01.OnCellAttach() - "<savegame>" Line ? [04/28/2014 - 01:08:23AM] Error: Argument variable "bLooping" was not successfully looked up stack: [ (00060F5F)].critterspawn.OnCellAttach() - "<savegame>" Line ? [04/28/2014 - 01:08:23AM] Error: Argument variable "bPrintDebug" was not successfully looked up stack: [ (00060F5F)].critterspawn.OnCellAttach() - "<savegame>" Line ? [04/28/2014 - 01:08:23AM] Error: Argument variable "recursions" was not successfully looked up stack: [ (00060F5F)].critterspawn.OnCellAttach() - "<savegame>" Line ? [04/28/2014 - 01:08:23AM] Error: Attempting to manipulate variable "recursions" was not successfully looked up stack: Â They popped for all sorts of BaseIDs, but they all took that generate four-error form. Â All critterspawn.OnCellAttach()-related errors, all problems with looking up bLooping, bPrintDebug, recursions, and then a problem with manipulating recursions (which is expected since it couldn't look up recursions variable in the first place). Â Dunno what it means though... just that these errors were only in the broken save. Â Edit: tried to look up a few of the formIDs on skyrimsearch.com, and they weren't even showing up. Â Argh, so weird and confusing!!!
davidporter89 Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 you can pretty much kiss that character goodbye. would bet money it's a corrupted save, for one reason or another, and unless you speak fluent binary, it's gone. a good tip would be to not overwrite to the same save slot over and over. sorry for your loss.
elemental Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 Yeah, I figured as much. Â Oh well, at least I was pretty much done with that char anyway. Â I actually never overwrote -- except for quicksaves, of course, but the same problem happened when I loaded one of the full saves. Â Of course due to OCD I deleted almost all the older saves, so now I've only got these broken ones. Â Meh, thems the breaks. Â Thanks again for all the help, guys. Â Will be around
davidporter89 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 i have personally seen 1 of my hdds crash on overwrite. no problems since ssd though. i admit it was probably coming anyway, bad blocks and all, but just the same.
Uriel Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 If your hardware fails, you will get a corrupted save anyways.
davidporter89 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 yes i know. i was just saying that no overwriting is a rule i have followed since all that mess. i have seen many people say to not do it, that is true, but after seeing it myself i did take it as gospel. do you know, off hand, if it writes to the exact same blocks on the drive on overwrite?
Uriel Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Looks like this issue is perfectly solvable by running a not-so-clean save on SexLab.
