Hi,

this is more a question that an actuall problem.

I will change my PC, as I felt already a limit of how much I can increase the grafics :P

So what I want to know is, what of the mod organizer do I need to move to the new drive to get the same profiles and mods - can I just copy paste the whole directory? will it then work or show an error? Do I need to redownload all the mods I have?

thanks for any advice :)

Good question. I am also interested to know if there is a tried-and-working series of steps to ensure an exact duplicate of the game on another system.

if you didn't change anything path related in MOs settings, MO will have stored everything (mods, DLs, profiles) in its own folder, so moving the complete MO dir would be enough.
But be aware that MO might not find your new Skyrim installation if the new path differes from the one MO saved in ModOrganizer.ini.

As all Mods are in the Mod Organizer Folder you should only need that. But you may have some other stuff installed into Skyrim directly, for example ENB, SKSE, and maybe some mods you installed without MO.

As posted above, you might need to manually change some settings in ini files.

Start the Skyrim Launcher first after you do anything else on your new setup to ensure the path gets written into the registry and the vanilla setup and INI's are in "My Games/Skyrim".

You also might want to backup this save folder as you might have old saves you want to keep. IF you don't have "local Savegames" checked the saves are here.

Saves are stored in MO and I make a backup every few days, as I am experimenting with various mods, so that should work.

From mods which are seperatelly installed, then yes, SKSE (I will remember to install it first) I will run the game, then I instal MO in the new PC, run the check for the game then I will copy/backup maybe the ini file of MO and at least I copy all data from the old MO instance to the new location and try to run it.

What do you think?

Besides that, what about mods which are instaling themself in the game even through MO like FNIS, Caliente tools etc? Maybe I just copy the whole game tools folder too? Or maybe all folders? :)

MO doesn't need to be installed again.
Just copy it over to the new PC. if the Skyrim path MO has saved is no longer valid, you can set it up again in MOs options (maybe MO even prompts you for it).

hopefully it works great

Tell us how it went!

If it works, I will have to start backing up my entire MO folder (right now I'm only backing up the "downloads" folder).

So I finished installing Windows and skyrim - skyrim without mods runs on 1920x1080

After that I copied the MO directory to the hard drive and copied the Data directory on the skyrim Data directory

I run MO and it is working - all mods are there and profiles are working

But Now another problem apeared - it gives me an error that my display does not support this resolution - without MODs it's working...

So I asume, there is a file, which stores the resolution and it still has the resolution of my OLD laptop - any idea which file that could be?

Ok, so, there is a problem between MO and SKSE

When I run directlly from SKSE (not within MO) it works, from MO it does not.

I tried to change the SKSE path, but it's the same...

@EDIT

In my latest test I installed a completelly new mod organizer and copied only the mod directory and profiles directory (it showed all mods and profiles correctlly after start)

but still the same issue - after I click run it tries to load and then tells me that this resolution is not supported.

(just to remind, without mod irganizer this resolution works well)

There is an .ini editor in Mod Organizer, under the "Tools" button. Use it to read the skyrimprefs.ini file.

Under [Display] you will find bFull Screen, iSize H and iSize W. Are these values correct for the monitor and resolution you are trying to run Skyrim on? If you edit them, does it fix the issue?

Just for a summary:

when moving to another system/PC/laptop

you can do it in two ways: copy all your mods - install them manually and then copy paste your profiles from the old system

or

copy the whole MO folder, the Data folder in skyrim, and your profiles.

Copy MO to your HD, install skyrim, run skyrim, turn it off and copy your Data folder into skyrim

instal SKSE

Run MO and change in the ini editor under tools the resolution in skyrimprefs.ini if neccesarry

Now it should work.

it looks great on 1920x1080 with ultra HD Textures and skin :D

I did this yesterday and it was amazingly simple. I just copied my entire steam folder over. Launched steam from the new folder location from the steam exe in the steam folder.

It updated the game just fine. I copied MO over next and ran it. Got a pop up saying it couldn't find the game and giving me a browse option to select a new game folder.

I pointed it at the new one. Went to each of my executables and modified the lines from the old location drive to the new.

i.e. G:\\Mod organizer\mods to h:\\mod organizer\mods Did this in each line. Binary, Start In, Arguments.

Fired it up worked like a charm.
