Handsome Squidward Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Now I know there is this fine line and posting game resources online is illegal, but I have seen it done before in popular mods. It mostly pertains to using FO3 voice files in FNV and I've seen good uses for this. I was wondering if I can use FO3 or FNV voice files in Skyrim and generate my own lip syncs and expand on Skyrims limited voices. This process is remarkably easy to do, and the result is not a Fallout game resource, but I don't know the law. I am just a humble modder I though Bethesda encourages the creativity of the modding community. Also, Skyrim lip files combine mp3 and lip sync, right?
Ark of Truth Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 The answer to your question is NO. You can do it only for your own personal use and you are NOT allowed to upload it to the internet period.
Slammer64 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Unless of course, you like being slapped with copyright infringement notices and the lawsuits that go with them. Bethsoft considers that piracy.
LaEspada Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Of course a good example of doing this kind of semi-legally is the popular Tale of Two Wastelands for Fallout New Vegas & Fallout 3. Using an installer that requires the user to own both games, without providing any files themselves from the original games you can get around this.
nekekami Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 There's another file on the nexus that adds interiors and whatnot to nv and has an optional dl that adds clutter and things from fo3 but doesn't provide any assets
Spyder Arachnid Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Personal use, totally fine. As long as it is only for personal use and you never give it out. If you want to upload it? Highly illegal and you don't want to deal with Bethesda and copyright blah blah stuff. Safest bet? Make your mod, but make it a requirement to have FO3/FO:NV. Then leave a detailed description on what they need to extract from their game and how to install it into your mod. But don't ever upload the files yourself. That's just a no no.
Akzyra Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 With the already posted stuff, I would say make a tool that extracts the files you need and puts them in the right location. Easiest way for the users of your mod. Users needs both games and needs to tell the installation paths of the games (or read them from the registry)
nekekami Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 if you really want to see how someone does it totally legally take a look at the tale of two wastelands site where they literally have the entirety of fo3 inside fnv and their faq covers a lot of the legal questions.
