Veladarius Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Getting the facial proportions correct can be difficult to do. Here are some tips to get the proportions you want. - Have something to reference, different ethnicities have different proportions. - There are 2 reference lines to imagine, 1 down the center of the face and the other horizontally at the ears (like where the arms of a pair of glasses would go). Where they meet is your centerpoint. - use the horizontal line to get the eye and brow height then place it horizontally using the pupil and look where it is between the center line and the ears. The cheekbones are placed based on the eyes as well. - To get the face length, compare the distance from the centerpoint to the ears with the centerpoint to the chin. This can vary quite a bit from person to person. - To get the nose height, look at the reference and imagine a triangle with the points being the centerpoint, center of the eye and the tip of the nose. - The nose width is a matter of the proper proportion between the bridge and nostrils - To place the mouth, look at where the center of the mouth is between the tip of the nose and the bottom of the chin. Match the mouth width and lip shape to your reference - Look at the shape of the face to get the chin shape and jaw width and height. Once you have made some faces and can see the difference in these proportions it will be a bit easier to get what you want. Some different faces I have made:
