Z0mBieP00Nani Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 When I try loading the game through SKSE the launcher takes forever to load the game, and when it DOES finally start to load it immediatly crashes to desktop, I'm not even making it to the Bethesda logo screen. When I try starting the game through Steam the game starts, but when I try to load a save game I get an infinite loading schreen. I don't know what's going on, the game worked fine yesterday and I haven't changed anything since then. UPDATE: Apparently I CAN load Skyrim IF I start the game through Steam and load from a save that is in a building; anywhere else and I get an infinite load screan. I still don't consider that a fix though because without SKSE a bunch of my mods won't work, including ones that affect the appearance of my character..

CGi Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 it's best not to use Safety Load anymore if SKSE 1.7 alpha (or higher) is installed as both do similar things and Safety Load can lead to graphical glitches and freezes if not setup correctly. i recommend to verify the game files and check all mods for conflicts and/or missing files. And the game can take some time to load and show the intros/menu, especially if launched thru MO and with loads of mods installed (even more so if most mods use loose files instead of BSAs).

I do have SKSE 1.7 alpha installed, but I'm not sure what you mean by using Sfety Load, I've never hear of that before. Are you sayin I've been using SKSE 1.7 alpha for over a couple of months now and just been getting lucky with the game actually starting so far? Would it jbe a better idea to downgrade to an earlier version of SKSE? What's the best way to check mods for conflicts or missing files?
terson29 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 For quick check on missing mods you can use the Wrye Bash. For conflict check I use the TES5Edit. Your idea to downgrade to SKSE 1.6.6 seems reasonable (be sure to check that no mod of yours have 1.7.0 as a prerequisite) You maybe can try this (never used it myself): http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31724/
CGi Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 You actually went out of luck with your game stopping to work. SKSE 1.7 alpha work flawless for me but some people report having problems with it. So if you have to, try to downgrade even tho it's no good solution imo.if you didn't use the memory patch (has to be done in SKSE.iNi) from the alpha you can downgrade w/o any loss, but i recommend to use this new feature as it renders Safety Load (an SKSE plugin that prevents iLS) obsolete as it prevents iLS as too and can boost performance by removing some micro stutter. And as terson29 said: You can use TES5Edit, Wrye Bash or MO to see if a plugin misses a master (by a missing mod or the wrong load order). if it comes down to checking for missing assets you're on your own. if you use MO go for the trail and error method by disabling all mods and then activate max 5 and test if the game works. Repeat until you found the cause or got all mods enabled again. if you don't use MO: Good luck with that. P.s.: The Save Game Cleaner terson29 linked is obsolete as there's now a new and better one: Save game script cleaner.
Z0mBieP00Nani Posted April 7, 2014 Author Posted April 7, 2014 I have seen the save game file cleaner out there, but I don't know how to use it. I barely know how to use Tes5 Edit to clean my master files, but nothing else. I did manage to get the game working by uninstalling it and reinstalling everything, lucily I made a save file of my data folder from way before any of these issues had occured so it made reinstalling everything fairly easy. The only issue I'm having now, is a bunch of bears and saber cats randomly spawning in Whiterun during vampire attacks, and (from what I've noticed so far) inside the Drunken Huntsman.. which.. admittadly, while annoying, makes the game kind of interesting when you suddenly have about 15 or 20 cornered predatory animals spawning in the same building at roughly the same time... thank the gods for full auto crossbows.. and that memory patch that ships with SKSE 1.7 alpha, that's all I'm going to say on that one.. Do you think Tes5 Edit or The Save Game Cleaner might help with my bear and cat infestation?
CGi Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Unlikely.First i recommend you switch to MO. With MO you'll never have to install into the games data directory again, so the game is always pure vanilla which saves you the time from having to reinstall. And if a mod is the cause of a problem, you simply untick it and the plugin and all the other files that belong to it are gone. Or if you just want to disable a mod, while keeping it installed in the game, you can still untick plugin files in the load order (as you know it from NMM, Wrye or TMM) but with the benefit of being able to untick the BSA as well ... what you'll have to do as with MO you can load BSAs w/o the need of a plugin file. in case of the Brawl Bug patch, where the plugin is just a dummy file, you can free up one plugin slot and this way shorten your load order as MO will simply load the BSA from this mod which replaces vanilla files. Else you'll have to use the dummy plugin file or extract the BSA. And if you reinstall Skyrim, MO will still have all mods (unless you deinstalled those too), so you can simply enable them again and everything is back. MO suports "Download with NMM" and version checks for Nexus mods. So you won't miss anything NMM can do, as anything NMM can do is something MO can do too, including multiple profiles with seperate saves and ini files (if enabled for the selected profile). Profiles help you test mods the easy way w/o screwing up the installed files. Oh, and having one mod replace the files from another is done by simply dragging the mod that should overwrite below the mod from which the files it should replace, so you don't need to think about complicated installation orders. Just install, establish a mod load order and then the plugin load order (which BOSS/LOOT does for most mods) as usual. Second i recommend you start from scratch, either vanilla or by using Alternate Start (+ Live a deviant Life). Because even if you kill a faulty script, the game is screwed up and after some time you may run ito more/other weirdness caused by what you thought you had fixed and why you won't be able to find the cause of the new problems.
