I Dun goof'd (Learned the hard way to not mix and match FOMM and NMM)

Hey if somebody could help me out it'd be amazing. I made the unfortunate mistake of trying out NMM to easy-install texture packs for FNV (FOMM crashes every time I use it) but I'm pretty sure it ended up deleting most of the important mesh/important files in my Data folder and now it won't even start. Any suggestions?

Your better of completely uninstalling and reinstalling, always use FOMM for Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

 

The only way FOMM will crash is if you are doing something to make it crash. Its more stable then NMM.

You screwed up your "InstallLog.xml" file. FOMM and NMM on default install use the same file name and location. If you use NMM after using FOMM you will not be able to use FOMM again. This is just one of the great "pleasures" bestowed by the creators of NMM on the gaming community. It has been this way since the beginning and still nobody wants to talk or even warn users. Shame.

 

You have two choices:

1. Remove the installlog.xml from the install info folder in FNV (default install for FOMM and NMM) You can find the directory by opening FOMM and clicking on "Settings" on the right side of the main panel. Go to the far right tab and open. Besides "install info" you will see the path. This will remove all records of the installations and you will not be able to uninstall the mods you have already installed. It will be as if you manually installed them. Should work after that. Yes the mods will still show up in FOMM and you can click and unclick them and even arrange them in order if you want. Just can remove them. (Don't know about NMM. I won't unstall that piece of crap even to test. Tell me I have to disable my firewall. Hell no!!!!. I will fricking install the mods manually before I ever do that!!!!)
2. Uninstall the managers and remove any remnants. (Including the files in your FO3 and FNV folders from the managers). Delete the Data folder. And then open Steam and have it "Verify Cache" and allow the files to be redownloaded. Then install FOMM from here. Install the mods you want. All mods that NMM install should be able to be installed with FOMM. If you have problems post in Pride's FOMM thread.  The you can have all the mods you have properly managed so that they can be removed, updated and changed as needed.

I might have some info on how to run both of the together... however eventually you will run into some issue doing so. So I won't be telling you how to do that. However if you are clever.. you should be able to figure out the problem from the above post and figure out how to use both at the same time.

That's what made me never use NMM again. Last time I used it was from the very first version and I tossed it in the trash bin and stayed with FOMM. ;D

In the directory with InstallLog.xml there will be backups. If you use NMM to remove whatever you installed, you can then test the different backups (by renaming them) to see if that gets FOMM back to a working state. If it doesn't, yes, you're somewhat screwed. You'll need to just delete the file, do a steme cache validation on FONV (which will remove all installed mods), and then reactivate all the mods in FOMM.
