Myst42 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 So I finally can say I "finished" the game It's open world, does not have real ending and so on... But technically, I did every major thing that could be done With a few mods, additions, changes and made up stories to complement my roleplay experience... specially considering that my character is not supposed to be just the average nordic warrior Dragonborn... she's the same as in Oblivion. That makes her the new Sheogorath... in human form with memory loss to experience the world and have a couple of laughs. I had to make my game and playing experience with her to live up to the name. I'm still pissed that the quests are so linear and there's so little room for choices. Big story ahead... wanted to share Tried to summarize so it's not exactly the way I'd tell the whole story Read if you like And I'd appreciate feedback and perhaps I'd also appreciate reading other storylines As I have always declared, my main character named Alice is not entirely human anymore, not since Shivering Isles, she continues to be my main character over the years and over all games. She was human once, the daughter of a wealthy and loving family, her father passed a few years ago but left her, her mother and sister with a comfortable situation. But she was never built for staying home, she wanted adventure so she left to the world in order to have it. The Oblivion story is for another time. All that matters about it is that she ended up becoming Sheogorath. She represents the human core aspect of the Mad God, what was once human, became a divine aspect but somehow she never lost her identity or her humanity. She only became More. With godlike power and a plane to rule there was no shortage of fun, but something seemed a little off. She missed walking the world and her friends and loved ones (that's for another story) So she decided to walk the world in human form, forget everything and play everyone a prank. Unfortunately she had the terrible habit of incarnating in situations where she was about to be executed or in prison... "Off with her head" said the imperials in Helgen when she first opened her eyes. She was immortal anyway but she didnt' remember. However things would follow a different course Take or leave a few dragons and she was free again to roam the world The world was grey and boring, there was misery and decadency everywhere, someone had to do something to bring Madness and cheers back to the world. So she became leader of all the guilds in actual game. Theoretically, she'd never really lead them, just wanted to plant the seeds of every guild's rebirth and leave them in more dedicated hands. She visited the College of Winterhold, nice place, good people... those crazy mages... She joined the Companions, also nice people... but why the hell would I want to be a werewolf when... well, I dont? The Dark brotherhood was interesting... for an assassin... but Alice was not an assassin... only restored the guild to former glory... some people need to die you know? After that, she wanted nothing to do with them anymore The Thieves guild was also interesting... for a thief... but she's not a thief either. Nevertheless these poor lads invited pity on how bad the guild was doing. Supposedly Nocturnal forces your mortal character to be her nightingale slave after death... in her case that's impossible since Alice is another free daedric princess, therefore the oath is invalid, or cannot even be made in the first place... another Lord fooled by her apparent mortality. Just tell em what they want to hear. Sadly in the game you have no choice in the matter... my roleplay imagination saved my character but with any other story, your character is forced to be Nocturnal slave with no other choice Finished the Dawnguard questline... accepted to become a vampire but removed the vampire lord form for rolepleying purposes Supposedly the transformation went wrong... nobody knew why but it was like nothing they'd ever seen... all the strengths, none of the weaknesses, not even the thirst was a problem. She gained a few powers like changing the color of her eyes at will. It's not like the vampire blood gave her strength, instead it made something awake. After all even being a daedric princess, she was limited in human form. Which brings me to the rest of daedric princes. Most of them are assholes who want you to kill your friends I had to use mods in order to tell them to go to hell... fail some quests etc... Dear Molag Bal, Boethiah, Nocturnal, Namira, Mephala, Dagon, Clavicus Vile, Hircine, Vaermina and even Hermaeus Mora: go fuck yourselves Some others were fun to play with Then Sheogorath's quest came along How to reconcile it with my story? Let's remember multiple personality disorder is a form of madness... so why not? The dear old bearded guy with the accent is just a manifestation of Sheogorath's mind... being a "god" and all, one could assume alternate personalities can even take corporeal form... so why not give yourself your own artifact in an entertaining hallucination? considering she still had memory loss... who would notice? Then the more she used the Wabbajack the more she remembered and the more her powers grew Saved the world from Alduin.... she liked that world... spared that crazy dragon Paarthumax cuz he was a nice fella... told the blades to go fuck themselves. All hate. No fun And supposedly (bug spoiled this quest) helped unite the realm under the empire... but boy did she hated the Thalmor... She only helped the Empire because Elisif was a dear friend to her and she wanted her to become the next High Queen... Ulfric was too full of himself... Then she went off to Solstheim, where the giant mushrooms reminded her of the Shivering Isles... that Miraak guy... now that's a cool boss Better than Alduin IMHO With all the Lovecraftian thing going on, the canticles to some old forgotten evil of eldritch power... that was certainly cool "Here in his shrine..." Totally loved the way that guy played with people's minds despite the evil After all Miraak just wanted to be free... he was not such a bad fella after all In the end Hermaeus Mora thinks he can command you as his new champion... but Alice doesn't care for power... she has all the power she could ever need and her own plane... she was there just for the fun and now she's able to return home effectively giving an end to the game For story purposes she'd still have to find what became of her friends and family from the past... but that's for another story, more mods, more modding experience and other stuff... She'd probably start jumping in and out of human form now that she remembers. So it is done Did you like my take on the story? I doubted this day would come with a so heavily modded game that it's a miracle it still works But it's finally over Err... Now back to Oblivion modding and Skyrim is only for screenshooting... well some exploring is still always fun...
gvman3670 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 SOME exploring? LMAO!! I can assure you that you're far from done in terms of exploration. There are more locations, weird things that don't have markers and so on. I've spent probably around 3000 hours total (between XBox and PC) and I am STILL finding new stuff I've never seen before.
Guest Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I'm still pissed that the quests are so linear and there's so little room for choices. Sorry, now this doesn't concern a lot... but this is what I was wondering when I was reading that sentence: ... the little details, like the connections between the DLCs, like telling Sapphire about her lost father, going to the mad guy living in the isle at north, where I met Hermaneous Mora, but this time I went there after Dragonborn DLC, and I told him "no listen, we already met, I just did a whole DLC with you on my back, remember?" and he answered something like "oh yes you're right, now I remember, sorry", or the murder of Winterhold questline that could be solved in a different way than blindly follow the arrows, going to Serana in a vampiric state and she tells me you stink just like one of us, etc.etc... while the story seem linear, for me the great amount of little details like these made it very enjoyable and deserved to be played more and more... i hope you'll do too
Myst42 Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 It doesn't mean I'm "done" with all the map, nor all the small quests The "little exploring" term refers to it in a way that sounds more friendly However I think those are the "big" quests and after completing them one should have a right to have a certain sense of closure... And I DO have other characters For example my necromancer did the Dawnguard quest after Dragonborn and after a custom mod quest that implies becoming a Lich I enjoy the value of replay, but at some point the game ends and the replay begins What I meant about linear is for example (consider this in order to finish quests): -You can't possibly say no to becoming a werewolf (you can un-become later but they'll always tell you how furry your ears look) -You can't possibly say no to killing a follower in the name of Boethiah... except ejemm... mods -You can't possibly say no to becoming a nightingale and pledging your soul to Nocturnal -You can't tell Molag Bal to stick it and that you don't want to make a guy submit to him (except mods) -You can't say no to becoming leader of the mages guild, the minute you walk through the door, the mage quest starts -You are forced to be a member of the thieves guild even if your character is an honest person who never stole shit in his/her entire life -If you want the dark brotherhood to continue existing you have to become the listener, and a slave to the "dark brotherhood forever" quest (except console) -You have to either kill Paarthumax or forget about completing that damn quest the blades give you... except mods This and the infinity other forced storylines you have to battle against if you want to truly have a sense of freedom and quest finishing Why does your giant sword wielding orc character has to lead the mages guild if he's not a freaking mage? tell me, why??
gvman3670 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Those quests don't need to be done, though.
Myst42 Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 If you have traces of OCD like me and can't stand the idea of a messy journal, then yes they really need to be done Not doing them and they just stack on the journal. And they pop up with no warning sign. Talk to someone BAM! you have new quest in journal... even pass beside someone. But I already vented my rage on this on the rant thread...
Guest GuyWhoAbruptlyDisappeared Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I play with an oculus rift and like to redo the game over and over, increasing the difficulty and handicap each time, tossing the character upon non glitch-related deaths (otherwise the best weapon is the save system, which is dumb). On legendary with frostfall and locational damage on, it starts to get hairy, and calls for new more creative ways to play. Right now I'm having great success not doing any fighting at all - while the dragonborn can take slightly less damage than the average bandit, lydia is still an immortal tank from hell as long as my dragonborn with a restoration skill of 76 and no other notable abilities is around. I would name the character "Aerith", but then I would have to die in Bleak Falls Barrow for the sake of consistency. As for "finishing skyrim", I never really thought about it much at all. I just realized that the concept of finishing skyrim had not occurred to me until I saw this post. I get around to the last quest and, by that time, I've come up with some new idea for a new character that I finish and start again. That's assuming I actually survive all the way to the main quest - my last character got shot in the face by a falmer in blackreach so I started again.
Rokabur Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Those quests don't need to be done, though. They do if you want the shouts and unique items that come from doing the questlines for them. There is tons of places in Skyrim without map markers. Not suprisingly I still haven't found the NPC's sitting around in the hotspring even with multiple maps and searching from nearby places with map markers.
Sweatington Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I managed to finish the dawnguard story untill i discovered modding, then broke my game, learned how to install everything perfectly, waaaay heavily modded game, was supposed to finish it with that setup but guess im still bored off gaming atm, so I started learning to mod. And i love these tools...
Vancien Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I like your character story but I think you have many more quests and adventures within Tamriel as well as Solstheim. I too have finished the "big" quest lines for Skyrim, Dawnguard and Dragonborn. But I can assure you that there is a ton of other quests to be completed. I suggest you start looking into the Achievements, as I have and begin taking those on as additional quests for your character. The Daedric Lord quests present some interesting challenges and optional outcomes for your character to choose. But be wise and do your research if you want the achievement for Oblivion Walker as you must choose an option that grants you an artifact or you will not obtain the achievement. I am currently at 89% complete with 360+ hours logged and have yet to finish achievements related to Solstheim. And Marriage. I think all of the achievements should be completed in order to fully encompass all of what Skyrim, at least for the sake of Bethesda's opinion on completion is, as fully complete. I intend to conquer all of Solstheim next, finding every location, doing every quest available, purchasing every piece of land, building every house etc etc etc. That will certainly lead to some diverse and unexpected adventures I am sure. I am especially looking forward to the discovery of all five black books and potentially what that knowledge could lead to for my character. Congrats on your accomplishments thus far.

But I really get your point and I agree completely. You are dragged into a serie of events and you can't say "stop spamming my log" until you simply start living inside the wilderness hunting deers and wolves, forgetting your fate is already written by a dev, you're the saviour of the whole skyrim and all the guilds, and no matter if you like to fit in these clothes, as no matter if you are a pure warrior leader of a mage guild. Probably it was just too much work in creating more variations of such a number of quests in that big world. I mean, NV is a bit better under this point of view.

Not suprisingly I still haven't found the NPC's sitting around in the hotspring even with multiple maps and searching from nearby places with map markers. I really don't worry much about shouts (at least not finding them all with every character I play anyway). And I can enchant/smith better items than you can get from quests. The hotspring with the bathing hunters? Oh, I've been there several times. A mod called "The Oiled Automaton" is a player home that sits at the edge of it actually. At least then you'd get a map marker!

Omigosh yess, that's exactly how i am. It drove me crazy having all that clutter, so because it drove me insane i've completed Skyrim 100% all DLC's, all side quests, all faction thingies you name it. The fact that the repeatable Misc quests don't go away from you're journal and they're the only ones that remain on my quest guide irritate me but its whateves. Still for me after literally doing EVERYTHING in Skyrim i fill up time by talking to npc's from the Interesting NPC mod, cuz it's so huge and awesome.
