What are, in your opinions, the best glitches in video games?  I've played video games for a long time, and I've seen a lot of fun glitches, but before I post my favorites, what is everyone elses favorites?

It's not exactly any sort of extreme thing, just one that I always remember: in the first Assassin's Creed, in the town below the Assassin's temple or whatever, if you climbed up the side of the mountain, you could get to a point where you would fall off of the world, and get some completely irrelevant achievement. It was hilarious. I discovered it completely by accident.

A funner one, and not exactly a glitch: In the first Mercenaries, on the ps2 (the second one is shit.), you had c4. You could order vehicles. You could attach c4 to vehicles. You could order a baggage carrier. It was very, very light. You could put c4 on the baggage carrier. You could blow it up. You would then have successfully made your own meteor. I had a ton of fun seeing how high I could get it to go/trying to follow it and go to where it landed.

Dead Space 2 doesn't unload collision models when you go through doors and transition to chapters. The thing you are carrying with you turns invisible but you can still use the surgical tool to pick it up and that includes throwing it at enemies, so if you're careful enough you can bring a couch or some other large item with you through a few chapters.

The oldest glitch, probably my first one I discovered personally in an old fps game on Shadows of the Empire 64. When you fight Boba Fett it has a 2 part boss battle-you kick his ass, he gets angry and comes after you with his ship. When you have turn off the invisible walls and ceiling so you aren't kept in bounds of the map it will spawn another Boba Fett and his ship at the same time so it becomes a boss battle with 4 people and 2 ships.

When portal came out I was obsessed with finding gamebreaking portals-most of the things I found crashed the game though, but every once in a while I'd find something hilarious/odd. I always thought the things on the other side of the portal were separate instances-the things you see in your room are a collection, and the things you see in the orange/blue portals are rendered duplicates/separate collections themselves, so technically you should be able to reach through and get yourself another copy of what you have in the room-chel isn't actually there in the other portals-its just a bot that copies your every move. I always wanted to get a companion cube to the disintigration fence thing by the elevators so in the first mission with the autoguns I stacked like 2 or 3 cubes together and put a portal on the ceiling above it. That first room where you find ratmans scribbles has some really large metal crates in it that can fall through the portal, but sometimes they are too wide to fit in so you have to push em around. If you angle the other portal (not on the ceiling) far enough away from the large boxes so they immediately don't fall in unless you push them it will push all 3 cubes out of the map so its stuck in noclip territory. if you put a portal right above where cubes are stuck you can reach in and just keep pulling them out (even though they can't be seen in the portal. The cubes vanish like any other object, but all I wanted to see was if there was something good inside of them (dead bodies, other glados/robot things). Everytime I see an (unhandled) exception has occured this application will now close/terminate or whatever I always crack up because there are so many ways to crash this game. This glados cameras mounted on the walls cause the most problems/crashes.

If you own max payne 2 kill the guys in the warehouse and push the bodies over to the elevators right after you meet mona sax in the first mission. Put the bodies between the door so when it closes it leaves the legs in and torso out of the elevator. Probably one of the funniest ones I've seen in any game.

Since I'm a speed runner, I love glitches that allow you to sequence break.  One of my favorites is the pixel-perfect escaping the forest in Zelda: Ocarina of Time, when you can jump slash into the nearly pixel-perfect corner allowing you to use the portal to the Zora river.  The old method was using the Navi Dive, where you talk to Navi and dive to get out of the forest.  For anyone who doesnt know, when you speak to Navi, it causes water physics to not work if you fall into the water while talking to her.  You can do a similar thing in the Water Temple using Dins Fire, by stepping close enough to the edge, you can fall through the water while using Dins Fire, potentially skipping a ton of water changing and the need of iron boots.  Yea, thats a lot of glitches I mentioned, but my favorite is the jump slash xD

Ok I think I just remembered the best one: back when I had a psone I was playing jedi power battles with 3 other people. Someone applied the gameshark cheat so that darth maul was a playable character. When we were going to finish the game-where you fight darth maul near the giant hole the game went crazy. When you passed a shield barrier you would have to avoid it to not get damaged. The guy playing as darth maul touched the last barrier right before the room with the giant hole and it would just keep spawning him at the entrance of the room. After we killed the npc darth maul the game would not end. We had to kill the person playing as darth maul for the level to be over. It was hilarious because everytime he was about to die he would jump back to the barrier and respawn with full health. When everyone used their force power on him at the same time he finally died and the game ended. We were never able to duplicate that bug, but I'm sure it had something to do with the gameshark giving higher jump/infinite force to the person playing darth maul. Some minor ones in the same game include an invincible red battle droid, and a tank that never stopped exploding.

Ah the first real permanent gamebreaker-my friend had that south park game on the 64. When I was playing single player I was on the mission where you are going around town killing the giant turkeys dressed in Hawaiian shirts. It was the first time I'd ever used the fart dolls as a weapon and I thought they were the best thing ever-I just kept switching between terence and philip (philip explodes alot bigger) and it would never stop spawning enemies. I kept my hand on the joystick/buttons for about 2 minutes so the game would never stop lobbing philips at this pink house (all the enemies kept spawning behind it and I wanted to get a high kill count) so I would get like 4 or 5 kills at a time. After I let go of the joystick and c buttons the explosion/clouds would NOT disapear. Whatever spawned would be killed by that cloud, and if you walked in to it you would take damage, the sound for the explosion (fart) would stop playing about half way so it was like when a game freezes on the computer but the sound keeps repeating/stuttering. I thought nothing of it and laughed it off, but I came to find that even to this day, when we reload the save the clouds are still there and there are philip dolls just floating in the air, but that isn't all-starting from the beginning of the map as if the game had been reset/cartridge saves were wiped the clouds would always be there. I always felt bad when we played that game in multiplayer because even in versus the cloud wouldn't go away. If I ever get my hands on that game again I'm going to record that bug and put it on youtube.

Am I understanding this right, and it literally broke your game to the point that the entire cartridge was unplayable?

No it was playable, but that map had this one area where anything that passed through would take damage. I'll get my friend to let me borrow the game and I'll post a video if my n64 still works. When a game gets boring find a way to break it-if you think hard enough you'll always find something to exploit and sometimes you get some laughs. Bugs and glitches always make me feel all warm inside.

Words do not need to be said about this glitch.  The video should start around 4:35.  About 3 minutes later, you will see probably the single funniest glitch in history.

Probably my favorite glitch will always be in Zelda: Link to the Past where you could clip out of bounds in the prison as you attempt to save Zelda for the first time.

I got bored once and tried to see if there was any other ways to escape outside of the path to instantly beat the game, and managed to find a way back onto the overworld.. and took Zelda with me on an adventure through the first dungeon. I planned on trying to beat the game with her in tow, until I discovered that bringing her to the cathedral is what triggers the guards to vanish from the world.. and approaching them from behind ends up soft-locking the game.

The c4 one reminds me of grenading the hell out of the tanks in Halo 1 on the original Xbox.  I used to spend hours just trying to get my tank or hog on top of the mountains.

Fallout NV glitched intro with the dude's rotating head and that dude says something related to your head trauma... ROFL

Civ 5: explore as much as you can to meet a bunch of civs, then trade all your gold for gold-per-turn. Then trade your GPT for each civ's (except the one you got gpt from) gold and immediately declare war on them.  You'll keep the gold, the gpt deal gets cancelled and you can repeat this for the next civ. Now you're rolling in gold and have like 10 wars. Use the gold to buy a lot of military units and watch the other civs offer peace in exchange for their gold after they get scared of your military.
