gooser Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Hate to burst your bubble: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/27434-clean-save-bullpucky-clean-save-myth/ In general the clean save approach has worked but its not perfect. The general steps that I take are: 1. Load your game save. Make a clean save (not quicksave). 2. Exit. 3. Disable the mod. Remove all traces of the mod particularly script files (pex) and the esp. 4. Load the game save. Click through the warning about missing objects. 5. Wait 2 minutes of real time. 6. Make a save (not quicksave). 7. Exit. 8. Load the last game save. 9. Wait 2 minutes of real time. 10. Make a final complete save. 11. Load the last game save and exit. 12. Make a small animal sacrifice. 13. Check Papyrus logs and read for any errors or warnings of the mod you removed. * 12 is optional.

You forgot the bit about smashing your fist on your keyboard when you do everything the way you're supposed to and it still crashes everything, followed by a sheepish trip to get a new keyboard, then eating a cookie to calm down.
prideslayer Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 This is fallout, not skyrim. There are no pex things, and you can safely skip almost all of those steps. The proper order for Fallout games is: 1. Disable the mod (or mods) you want to disable. 2. Start the game, load your save. Ignore missing stuff errors. 3. Give the game a 20-30 seconds to settle down. 4. Save. 5. quit. 6. Enable mods. From there you should be safe to continue from the save you made in step 4. Don't load any earlier saves, they may be boned. If you have multiple saves in time that you want to clean, repeat steps 2,3,4 for each one, saving to a new slot.
