Storms of Superior Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 So before I do something dumb, if I finally buy Dawnguard, will I have to start a new game? Will Dawnguard screw my mod installations? I'm guessing the more complicated mods like SD+ may be subject to being screwed by a new DLC.
phfor Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Mod-wise, you'd have to check each for incompatibilities (or if they need a different esp for that DLC), but Skyrim itself will function fine.
RitualClarity Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 1) Read all the mods you have installed and see if there is any conflicts 2) Backup your data folder. ( and game saves) 3) Make a manual save. (Use the command key and input "Save InsertYourSaveNameHere" Drop the ") 4) install the DLC 4) test and see if it works to your satisfaction 5) I would run Steam's Verificaton just to be sure that all the files are correct and proper.. unless you have some mod stating not to do that without some further steps. (protecting the Ini config, extracted BSA's etc. If so follow their steps if there happens to have any problems that might need a verification. If you have problems. 1) Rename your Data folder to DataOld. 2) Take your backup and extract / drop it into the Skyrim folder. This should return you to the way you were before. 3) Finish playing your current play thorugh, If the errors were because of introduction of the DLC mid way through the game a new start should solve that problem. That means the complete new start just to be sure. This would mean that anything that might be started from the cart ride (related to DLC's settings etc) would be started in this new start. Not necessarly required but a nice safety measure. Start the game, get a coffie or snack come back 15 minutes later for the first prompts. NO big deal. Why the renaming the data folder to DataOld?. That is incase there is some other issue like Scrip Extenders or the game itself that needs to be verified. You realize that the old game has the same issues you can just delete the copy you dropped into the game and remove the "old" from data and return to the one with the DLC installed. If you are running a mod manager it should install and remove the actual mods however there could be remenants of the mod in saves etc. If you remove a mod return to a "hard save" that you created before installing that mod. Always create a "hard save" before installing any mods "in game" that is during actual play through. If starting a new game it doesn't matter since any scripts that need to run would run properly and at the proper time not be delayed or start too quickly or even miss an event that was required.
Storms of Superior Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 So I bought both Dawnguard and Dragonborn, and the download button for Dragonborn was broken, and I can't find a way to download it now. Extremely pissed here.
