Kaos Wulf Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Taking a breath of relief, I set down my dualshock 3 controller and watched the ending cinematic along with the credits that followed to then be rewarded with yet another cinematic. I had hoped for something along the lines of Return of the Jedi/King and was instead faced with something that I could best describe as Michael Bay's finest (in his eyes) piece of work in his entire career. It was an over-the-top, melodramatic, and exhausting end to a trilogy that, despite my love for the Lightning character, should of ended with the first FFXIII. I will say that as far as gameplay goes, the combat system was an incredibly innovative feature and the customization was fairly satisfying to a self-designing junkie like myself. However, between the convoluted mess of a story and silliness of the side quests, I'm glad to see it all finally come to a close. They could of at least named it FFXIII-3 instead of the lackluster title they decided on, which I am aggravated now that it will be down in the L's on my psn trophy list and not with the other ones that I achieved platinum for. Sigh
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 So how many more games will Lightning be in now? I mean, it seems that the designers are in love with her.
Ark of Truth Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Better her then that emo cloud But then again Cloud's story ended with Advent Children.
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I'd much prefer Ex-Death. Yeah, he's a tree, but he has more personality.
Kaos Wulf Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 As far as I know, Toriyama won't be involved in anymore Final Fantasy games now that XIII is done. And yea, he definitely seems to be in love with Lightning, although he claims that Vanille is his favorite. The latest Game Informer review is pretty much spot on with my thoughts for the game. I enjoyed it but at the same time they dug XIII into the ground trying to prolong her image to the franchise.
Kaos Wulf Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 Better her then that emo cloud But then again Cloud's story ended with Advent Children. The same could really be said about Lightning. I mean they're both aloof individuals but he tends to be more of the dark, brooding type while she is all deadpan sarcasm
Kofina Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Well at least the ending connected with the other Fabula Nova Crystalis (now renamed TYPE-0 and XV) lore
Kaos Wulf Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 I never caught up with those. Type-0 didn't make it to a NA release and XV is still quite a ways off. EDIT: And just who was she speaking to in the scene after the credits? Could it be something as silly as the player audience?

EDIT: And just who was she speaking to in the scene after the credits? Could it be something as silly as the player audience? My guess is, that because LR tied into XV (Versus's) Lore that she'll end up being the goddess of death (Etro in XV's storyline), and that she is possibly talking to Noctis, The CS after the first ending has lightning and party living in modern-day earth (Also where XV takes place), she's on a train to find her friends and lives in France ^This is only speculation though, but the hints are pretty strong, given that the original games were supposed to tie into eachother through the FNC lore (and that FFXIII wasn't supposed to have 2 sequels in the first place)
Kaos Wulf Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 ugh, now I'll never hear the end of it from the LightxNoctis shippers if this is the case
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Shippers ruin everything. I still long for the days when every Final Fantasy was its own thing and not connected to anything else.
Guest Ragna_Rok Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 that one dude is right... "fist this game"
canderes Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 So how many more games will Lightning be in now? I mean, it seems that the designers are in love with her. Only Nomura can save the series now. I never understood the Lightning thing, but then I saw this-is this really square I grew up with? Too much Raitoningu in these damn games, seriously what the fuck are you doing Toriyama? it's going to be slowly butchered like FF7, and at the end of its life it will culminate into a bad fps game: FFXIII-5 Lightning Electric Boogaloo Edition. Give us another Chrono game, or another Mario RPG or something other than this crap. FFXV is a continuation of FFXIII yes? I'm confused by seeing two FF games from the same universe having a continuing storyline, never seen that happen before apart from -2 -3 or whatever they did with X.
Kaos Wulf Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 I just got the platinum trophy and saw the ending one more time to make sure what I saw actually happened lol. I invested myself into this series because of one character but now that everything is said and done I refuse to acknowledge the existence of the sequels; just how I don't acknowledge Star Wars episodes: I, II, III. She went from being a soldier to some spiritually divine, god-slaying, angel of death... If XV continues from this ending, well, it will contradict everything that happened at the end (the age of crystals and gods is over)
