tacomarine Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 so i think i'll ask cause i seriously have no idea what could possibly have caused this. i've been playing skyrim for a while on my new computer and it worked awesomely, untill i booted up tes mod manager and launched skyrim. it crashed (not CTD, it forced my comp to restart) and when it did restart the net was dicked up (fixed that) and tes mod manager is giving me the 'object referance not set to an object' error. WTF? i'm getting it fixed but i'm curious what could have caused this. clean install of tes didn't work, set mods in launcher and booted with skse to find out that i was missing a master file. don't get me wrong, i've CTD'd before. never like that you guys think this was software or just an odd reaction to forgetting to activate sexlab.esm? note: I'll get ya'll the log if there's even the remote possiblility of it being skyrim, or repost in general tech if it's software i just... IDFK. this is weird to me. and an edit as soon as i rechecked: i have papyrus, my bad. what i don't have is an entry in the log. *beats head against wall* double edit: guess what? skyrim esm deleated itself. fuck it, my computer's possessed. using StEAM to verify integrity, finally this things useful for something. update: so i got skyrim.esm back. turns out that's what tes was bitching about. just started it up, and..... and fucking thing. GAHHHH!!!!! *runs off and beats stuff with crowbar* yeah i've got nothing. turning off and on didn't work, either.
Jormungandr Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Prolly a routine failure from the computer itself, seen that a few times, had something similar like this once mysel, although without the side-effects you've noted, simply reboot was the case for me. I wouldn't pay much attention to it unless it occurs again. But you should check the event display if there are any HDD/System errors, just to be on the safe road. Edit: What the fuck, i've just read again, missing masterfile? O_o
tacomarine Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 idk mate. i'm used to strange things happeng to me. i just cracked up laughing when i tried relaunching skyrim to find out that skyrim.esm dosn't exist anymore. took a vacation to tamerial, apparently. This is beyond my training as a furniture salesman. edit: forgot to say, thanks for the quick reply man
Jormungandr Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 But i mean, the game usually doesn't just... swallow the Skyrim.esm . Is it >really< gone? Or did that game just go "bleeh i can't find the mastadata" ?!
tacomarine Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 gone. as in i went into the directory and hunted for it with a flashlight.
Jormungandr Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I say Sheogorath is the culprit. On a more serious note; I'd suggest letting the game validate via steam so it'll re-download the master file.
tacomarine Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 Ah, i see how it is sheo. i keep you're shrine nice and layered in fucking cheese and this is what you do to me? i knew i loved you! uhh... yeah. idk. but yeah that's what i did, just got a repeat reaction. crashed back to bios. tes worked this time though, still had to finger fuck the net.
Rokabur Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Not so suprising to have files just up and delete themselves. A while back my OS up and decided to delete several fonts that are regularly in use for certain programs lol. Did you run an anti-virus just in case? You never know what can cause your PC to just restart itself. Other day was just browing the web when my screen started to go crazy then my PC restarted itself. Turned out the site nicely infected my PC with the FBI Money-Pak ransomware virus.
tacomarine Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 so, next sheo updtae? yeah, got back to working condition again, ran it with just skyrim and update esms, worked great. turned on sexlab.... EPIC BLUESCREEN. wtf wtf wtf. WHAT THE FUCKING hey look, squirrl... bout virus's, i don't really trust anti-virus's. best defence is to not to get it, gone fine with security essentials for five years, not a single virus. my friend with a paid norton account has had me remove three viruses from his comp, including that fbi hoax one. did you now that there's actually many flavors of that one? some lock up your computer, some stick on your desktop, some make you green cheese...
