EMOTIONAL TEARS + SLAVETATS — NEXUS LOCAL BUILDER
==========================================================

DISTRIBUTION MODEL
No original Emotional Tears assets are included in this archive.
The download does NOT contain the original Emotional Tears ESP files, tear DDS
textures, original PEX files, or original PSC sources.

The Builder reads the user's own installed Emotional Tears Effect SE files and
creates the modified replacement locally on that computer. Source/download ZIP
archives found inside the original mod folder are deliberately ignored and are
never copied into the generated replacement.

TEAR STYLES

Styles 1-2 are generated from the original DDS files on the user's computer.
This Realistic Water Tears edition deliberately keeps the original thin,
continuous water streams because they look more like actual liquid than the
heavier smeared variants. A subtle custom ET_TearsFlat_n.dds normal map adds a
small wet-look highlight and eye-corner pooling without making the tears look
plastic.

Styles 3-4 are also generated locally as Black Tears. Texconv uses channel
swizzle 000a, which sets RGB to black while keeping alpha, so Black Tears are
physically black DDS files rather than depending only on an overlay tint.

RUNTIME CONFIGURATION
---------------------
After building, edit:
  SKSE\Plugins\StorageUtilData\EmotionalTearsSlaveTats\Runtime.json

Example:
{
  "config_version": 327,
  "tear_style": 2,
  "expression_preset": 3,
  "expression_intensity": 10
}

expression_preset:
1 = None
2 = Sadness
3 = Despair
4 = Fear
5 = Anger

expression_intensity:
0 through 10

After changing Runtime.json, turn crying OFF and ON again. No script compile is
needed for runtime configuration changes.

BUILD OUTPUT
------------
The initial Nexus download is a Builder/patch package. After INSTALL_PATCH.bat
succeeds, this same MO2 mod folder contains the locally generated complete
replacement: rebuilt ESP files, generated six-style textures, required PEX
runtime scripts and the runtime JSON configuration.

If the original Emotional Tears files do not match the version supported by the
binary PEX deltas, the Builder stops without installing partial output and the
reason remains visible in BUILD_RUN.log.

TEXCONV AUTO-DETECTION
----------------------
The installer first searches for an existing texconv.exe. If found, it uses it
and continues without any installation question. The WinGet prompt is shown
only when Texconv cannot be located automatically.

    - Emotional Tears Effect SE https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/122296
    - RaceMenu / SKEE with Face Overlays enabled
    - SlaveTats
    - PapyrusUtil / JsonUtil
    - Python 3.10 or newer
      Download: https://www.python.org/downloads/windows/
      During installation, enable "Add python.exe to PATH".
      Python is required only for the local Builder/verification scripts; Papyrus
      scripts still arrive prebuilt and do not need compilation.
    - Microsoft DirectXTex Texconv (BUILD-TIME only)

    Texconv is new to the Nexus Local Builder because the Black Tears DDS files are
    generated from the user's own original textures instead of being distributed
    prebuilt. It is not required by Skyrim after the build finishes.

    INSTALL_PATCH.bat automatically searches for an existing Texconv first. If it
    is missing, the BAT can install the official Microsoft.DirectXTex.Texconv
    package through winget after asking for confirmation. DirectXTex is an
    MIT-licensed Microsoft project. Texconv itself is not included in this archive.

  • Install Instructions

    INSTALLATION WITH MO2
    1. Install the original Emotional Tears Effect SE and its requirements.
    2. Install this Builder as a SEPARATE mod directly inside the same MO2 instance.
    3. Keep RaceMenu, SlaveTats and PapyrusUtil enabled.
    4. Double-click INSTALL_PATCH.bat inside this mod's folder.
    5. If Texconv is missing, answer Y if you want winget to install it.
    6. Wait for BUILD SUCCESS. The BAT always pauses and writes BUILD_RUN.log.
    7. Refresh MO2.
    8. Keep this generated replacement enabled.
    9. After a successful build, the original Emotional Tears mod can be disabled.

    CONFIG_MO2.txt defaults to:
      MO2_DIR=AUTO
      PROFILE=AUTO
      EMOTIONAL_TEARS_MOD=AUTO

    When installed directly in the MO2 mods folder, the Builder normally detects
    the instance and active profile automatically. Edit CONFIG_MO2.txt only if the
    automatic detection fails.

Looks interesting.

So if I understand this correctly, this mod applies slave tat overlays of tears corresponding to different face expressions, is that correct?

Once you install it, do you need to edit the json to make it work or does it come with a configuration (which you can then edit)?

Secondly, if anyone installs it using vortex it'd be great if you could share your steps in this thread :)
