Hentai-chan Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Here's the thing: There's a probablity that I might get a (shiny) new, and better, PC in the future and I have a shit ton of data (mods) in my current PC that have gotten a little out of hand. Frankly, I don't want to deal with the trouble of tracking down every single data (mods) in this PC to be installed to the other, better, PC. Then I thought cloud computing may be just what I'm looking for. But I really don't know that much about it, nor do I have any friends that use cloud. (I don't have ANY friends, really). So I thought to ask here. In case, there are people who use cloud and are very well familiar with it. What I'll use it for is simple: To transfer data (mods) from PC to PC. Can I use cloud for a matter as simple as data (mod) transfer? Are there reliable storage providers? (I inquired about some, but who said more is bad.) My current computer is win7 and the new will likely be win8. So, is there a provider that supports both of these systems? And on a lesser note, can delete the data (nope, this was only meant t annoy you, the addition in parentheses I mean) in the storage once I am done? Thank you for taking the time to read my inquisition regarding cloud. If you came here mistaking the title for a game title, oopsie...
Lexi SubZero Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 No experience with cloud service here but... Why don't you just put the old PC HDD into the new one? Keep the data you want and delete the rest...this way you also get a backup drive..no need to tediously upload anything anywhere.

Myself(old fashion maybe?)will never place my screens or data on some bloody cloud(specially not google who are not to be trusted one bit). If you don't have any troubles with privacy google it you will find many ways storing data on some external cloud.
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 The cloud might be the future... in the future. Right now though, you're more likely to not have a connection that can handle it. Which is true of much of the world, since companies are still dragging their feet on infrastructure.

Isn't HDD built in to the motherboard on laptops? Should have mentioned that, huh? 2TB extern usb 3 is solution? Though it's almost always a different story when you hear people out. Hmm... Cloud is less of an option then. I do possess a portable hard disk. I tried to physically transfer DAO back in the day and, boy, I literally couldn't start a new game and was stuck with my only save which was very close to the ending. And that was without any programs. No WinRAR, no BitZip (some RAR-like program I found couple of years ago, don't use it anymore) just good ol' WinExplorer copy-pasting. Any advice I can transfer the data physically without risking corruption?
Captain Cobra Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Laptops today have removable HDDs, but seeing as your going from laptop to laptop you probably only have room for one. I'd get a usb HDD Dock.
