Hello everyone,

So, I'm new, like really really, 1 week old new, to modding. I'm having trouble starting Skyrim Special Edition. I've downloaded a lot of MODs between here and Nexus. Now, when I try to start the game using the Vortex mod manager and Skyrim Script Extender 64, I get a pop up window from PapyrusUTILTFC.dll saying this: main.cpp(73): PapyrisUtil module not found. I've tried looking it up but I'm not getting much. I should note that I'm also not that tech savvy so all of this is going way over my head. Any help would be very much apprecitated.

Thank you all very much.

You may want to know then that if Skyrim can steal your banking information, then so can a dll running within it. Dlls (or modules/images) are programs within programs. While I haven't seen any problematic dlls for Skyrim yet, there's no reason why the ratio of good/bad dlls wouldn't be the same as the ratio of good/bad software in general. What is this ratio? I do not know; but what I do know is that it's high enough that you definitely should never download an executable from the internet and just run it. If you don't already have a security policy for this, then define one: maybe Windows Defender is enough for you, or maybe you want to play it safe by running it through multiple scanners, a virtual machine and a sandbox. Perhaps you want to get all forensic on it with behavioral analysis and disassembly. Maybe you want to be able to be 100% sure and read through the source code before you compile it yourself.

Presumably that's supposed to be "PapyrusUtil module not found."

PapyrusUtil is perhaps the most common stumbling block for LL beginners that haven't figured out their load orders yet. SexLab (for whatever reason) bundles some old version of a PapyrusUtil dll. If you install the actual PapyrusUtil mod before SL in your load order, you'll end up running the old dll from SL instead. This will cause issues with other mods. So while it might usually be recommended to let mods with bundled bits from other mods overwrite the originals, in this case you want the exact opposite: SL (conflict loser) before PapyrusUtil (conflit winner).
