Guest Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I'm playing with Requiem and that mod makes arrows too heavy for my taste(The arrow starts to fall too soon). I've tested a few mods that affects this but either they are not compatible or they don't include the proper aiming fix, so I want to make my own mod with 50% less gravity. How can I do that?
ScreamingSquid218 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I use Arrow and Bolt tweaks. I dont know if it would change the gravity but it allows me to up the speed of how fast the arrow flies. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/11941/?. Hope this helps
gvman3670 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 As a very experienced archer I feel qualified to shed some light on this. I've been shooting/bowhunting since age 4 and am now 43. I have placed 1-5 in state level Field and Vegas-style spots shoots, as well as place high is local 3D and spot leagues. I even build traditional bows and I like to frankenstein modern compound bows. These bows in Skyrim are all either longbows or recurves. In old style combat English or Welsh longbows could have ridiculous high draw weights, but those weren't generally shot with accuracy at specific targets and instead were used to rain hell on the enemy from a distance. Bows that are used to accurately shoot at a specific target tend to have draw weights of 20-50 pounds. I can assure you that shooting wooden, medieval-style arrows that weigh a ton out of these bows means you won't see anything that even resembles fast arrow speeds. In fact, they'd be slow enough that the trajectory (and lack of arrow rest and sights) means that even a very experienced archer would have issues making accurate shots outside of 30 yards. Those arrows drop like rocks and tend to spray like buckshot. If you want realism in Skyrim's archery you actually want arrows that drop like there's no tomorrow and they should be made far less accurate, even with an archery skill of 100.
Guest Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Well, maybe it's like that in reality but I want my archery to be fun and feel more like in the action movies. To me, it feels like my bow is trash if the arrow starts to fall after 3 yards, even if I can compensate for it. Skyrim is a fantasy game and doesn't have to be realistic in every aspect. As a solo adventurer you would be really hard pressed if your arrows missed 50% of the time vs a pack of wolves or bandits. I tested ABT and I think it makes it too easy to hit a bullseye from a long distance since the gravity is almost zero in that mod, but I had a closer look at proper aiming and it seems to tweak the gravity enough for my taste. Thanks for your feedback.
gvman3670 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Yeah, I know it doesn't have to be realistic. I was just trying to point out how unrealistically easy it already is, that's all. Traditional archery is anything but easy and requires years to just become an average archer. For kicks, here's a bow I built myself.
