Game freezing with no CTD

So I have been playing a modded run for a while now, the game works mostly fine everywhere, I have been to cities like whiterun, windhelm, dawnstar, even completed the full dawnguard dlc with almost no issues (there was a weird ctd happening at random at soul cairn but i could navigate through quick saving and got out so as annoying as it was i don't plan on going back in there), but then i got in markarth because of simple slavery into public whore, at first it was fine but then during the quest game just freezes, so i got into a building and got stuck there because as soon as I got out, game would freeze immediately with no time to do anything, so i went back to a save during the simple slavery trial, and instead of markarth the quest sent me to whiterun and everything worked fine, I wanted to progress in the dark brotherhood quest so I went to windhelm to talk to the aretino kid, and then into riften, everything was fine until i got inside riften (i wasnt there before so i used carriages to get there), while getting inside riften the game froze again without loading anything so black screen, I have no idea really what to do to make it stop, I'm guessing it probably has something to do with interesting npcs or smth idk

EDIT: If someone has this bug, i don't really know if your error is going to be the same as mine, but, my issue was a conflict between "A - IMMORTAN - Complete base game and dlcs - FINAL" and "Botox for MEN", freezes stopped once I disabled either one of them

As with all Skyrim freezes, unless you're looking to learn new skills or practice existing ones, it very rarely if ever makes sense to actually figure them out. You'll get your answer faster and for way-way-way less effort by removing mods until the problem goes away.

 

Find a reliable way to reproduce it first if you want to cut down on the time to test.

i got a save where i'm literally at a door and going out of it freezes the game, but removing mods will crash the game so... is it about creating a new save and try it every time?

If you know what you're doing with ReSaver you might get away with that, but personally I'd still start a new game every time. ReSaver would be my option if there appears to be no way to get time to test down to a few minutes with a new game.

 

You can tp straight to the cell where this load door is, from the main menu, using the coc console command. The game will give you a default nord male character and some iron armor.

update: I think it might have something to do with some approach mod, im not sure but I have solid grounds for it, I got to Riften in my current save during the questline I mentioned above, i quicksaved and normal saved quite literally in front of the door of riften, BUT the guard is about to do an interaction with me (spank, ask name, it changes any time I reload) so i got in without interacting with him and game froze, I thought at first it was riften bugged so I could try going through a secondary door instead to make sure riften was the issue before trying a new save to make sure riften was fcked, since i was already at the front door, while moving to a secondary door the guard spanked me, I ignored him and continued through the other door, and I could get into riften without freezing, I retried it but this time after the guard interacted with me, I got inside the main door and again it worked, to make sure that was it I retried it without interacting to the guard and it froze again, (made sure like 3 times for each, interacting and not interacting with the guard) so my guess it has something to do with some sexlab approach mod that I have, as i know when game freezes is usually because an ai somewhere in the code it gets inside a loop, so maybe if the path is cut or something it gets into a loop trying to get to me but unable to do so (and as far as I have seen in other posts, markarth navmesh is usually fcked so maybe thats why it sometimes freezes idk), im trying to recreate it but besides the first guard no one is trying to interact with me for some reason 😛, but im walking around riften, inside and out of buildings and is not freezing

EDIT: nevermind that was not it, removed sexlab approach, the guard obviously didn't approach, game still froze, used another autosave and game froze after waiting so probably not the reason

Every loop that doesn't have a guaranteed way to exit is a protential freeze. Synchronization object deadlocks is another. The thing that makes freezes tricky even if you know how to use a debugger is that it's almost always going to look like the program is running as it should. Watching CPU usage, context switches and setting logging breakpoints at key places are some of the ways to find freezes.

 

I don't do these kinds of jobs often enough to "git gud", but there's not going to be a way into freezes that doesn't involve assembly (language) and a debugger.

So, I finally got it, this time its more likely right, it was the mod "A - IMMORTAN - Complete base game and dlcs - FINAL" or one of its patches conflicting with "Botox for MEN", another mod that also edits the faces of npcs, so i just removed the "Botox for MEN" mod, trying in a new save and old saves I can confirm it stopped crashing, thanks, the coc trick in a new save with alternate life or smth like that is called really saved a lot of time, thought i would have to mess with resaver 100 times which would probably have taken way more time
