Stuttering issue.

Hello! I recently upgraded my GPU to a Sapphire 7870 OC edition, running alongside a FX 6300 on a 450w psu, and so far it hasn't been very pretty, I experience irritating stutters when turning in First Person, from about 60 to 40, and in certain areas in small towns like riverwood, it will drop to about 30fps, Ive turned AA and AF and set shadows to low, and still, get stutters. Could this be a power issue, since the 7870 requires 500 w minimum? Am I expecting too much out of this particular card?, I'm planning on overclocking soon enough, anyway, thanks.

450w psu,

That is no were near powerful enough, 700w minimum or if you have the money to spare a 1000w one.

Your graphics card and CPU are completely under powered.

I advise you solve this first and check to see if your problems are solved before we continue with other things.

Graphic Card: OK, unless you load loads of hires textures as there's just not enough VRAM. if you use the reference cooler: replace it so the card does not lower the clock speeds to fast.
PSU: As Ark said: Completly underpowered. Get at least 700W or to be more future prove min 850W.

CPU: More then you'll ever need for Skyrim.

I have the same graphics card and I seem to be OK with skyrim, besides the CTD's that Bethesda is famous for.

I bought a 450w power thingy-ma-jig and it played mos everything, but i got a 500w to be safe.

It depends on many things need more info on your system and brands you use.

On full load test metro last light your card(heavy game)uses 250 watt.

If PSU is a good brand 450 should be enough if only use one videocard and don't OC(standard OC already on card is np they been tested heavy and give np)

Vsync ON? becouse you said stutter?

Do you use ENB or other heave texture mods?

If you use ENB-flora overhaul also use grass on steroids mod and change ini to 120(explained by mod maker on mod page) it will IMPROVE YOUR FPS considrable.

Heavy modded skyrim can bring down even high end pc's skyrim is just not optimized for these mods.

Maybe, but unlikely.

  1. Kill as many (unneeded) background processes as possible.
  2. Optimize textures with DDSOpt or Optimizer Textures.
  3. Replace loose files with (high compression) BSAs to reduce load time and by this micro stutter.
  4. Disable ENB graphic effects.
  5. Disable the Steam overlay for Skyrim.
  6. Disable any other programm (if applicable) that adds informations to the games screen.
