Longfellow Bug/Walk in the Park experienced for the first time and was solved.

I recently returned to FO4 after quite a few years out of boredom with a new SSD since my old one died losing ALL my Pre-Creation Club Install - I couldn't even use Mod Configuration Menu because it was so old - but it was stable and out of Bethesda's patching fuckery.

Spent a couple days trying to play catch up - went for MO2 and the 163 archive for compatibility AND then disabled updates/Beth.net.

Everything was fine for a couple weeks with surprising stability and performance.     . . . . Then 'it' happened.

Got to Far Harbor and saved the people, accepted quests, met Longfellow and proceeded out the front gate. A few seconds later - CTD. Repeatable.

After searching I realized I was still playing catch up with any/all problems created after the version I was familiar with.

I found I was now the victim of a bug I never had or heard of before. I thought I had an incompatible mod for Far Harbor installed resulting in me looking for love in all the wrong places when it was something not specific to me other than using the Unofficial patch.

Apparently there's a dialogue problem with Longfellow as you follow him out of the gate in Far Harbor on your way to Arcadia. He stops in the same place about 50ft up the road and the game CTD's within seconds.

The solution is to NOT have Longfellow along when you go to Arcadia - simple as that. Doesn't matter how you get there - even 'teleporting' is fine. Just anything to avoid triggering his dialogue.

I just ran there myself and once inside - paused to post this. Hope it helps someone.

A side note. Being used to Alt-Tabbing to desktop to speed up loading times when the game loads a new location - I had depended on my hearing before - waiting on silence before alt-tab back into the game - but sometimes It wasn't finished loading resulting in a lower resolution, sometimes making font unreadable and game unplayable.

Now I just keep task manager open and watch the FO4 disk usage and soon as it hits zero - I'm Good To Go - every time.

I looked at other options to avoid this problem and decided sometimes the old ways work just fine without possibility of more problems. The only downside is looking at my desktop so much while playing THIS game.
