Tips on a Clean Reset

Recommended Posts

I want to get back into sims, and I want to do a clean reset of my whole game. Delete (almost) everything, and start over. I get a fatal error (which I can still play through) whenever I start up, and the load times are intense with all of my cc (recently discovered I have close to 80gb of just clothing and CAS items, many aren't getting used).

I want to keep my tray flies, and my wickedwhims/MCCC settings profiles intact. Is there a good way to do this? I'm aware I'd be losing a lot of cc made with the tray files, but I also am debating just finding and re-downloading the sims and packages. Would that cause glitches if I were to fully delete and reinstall?

TIA

Just go to Documents>Electronic Arts>The Sims 4 and into 'saves', 'screenshots', 'recorded videos' and 'mods' and delete everything (also 'Tray' if you'd like to delete stuff from your library too but I don't know if this will delete the premade ones or not so be careful of that). This way you won't have to go through the annoying tutorials and glowing icons and objects and you'll have a clean slate. Hope this helps.

Rename 'The Sims 4' to 'ts4.old' start TS4 and let it create a new 'The Sims 4' folder.
Then you may move or copy whatever you want from ts4.old to the new folder,

So you still have all data and could revert back - deleting things may be a bad idea.

If you keep 'Tray' file without 'Mods' be aware that 'Mods' contains skins, hair, outfit and sliders.  There is no point to keep 'Tray' and to delete 'Mods' unless you have mostly maxis-match CC. Unless you like bald nude sims which look very similar, of course.

PS: If there are sims you like in your game you may use the TS4 Tray Importer to export the sims you like as a ZIP with CC. So you can extract the created ZIP files with Tray and CC to your new TS4 folder later.
