Community shaders: re-compile every time

Recommended Posts

For first time I'm trying to set up Community Shaders (Nexus version). I have installed all related shader mods for CS. Everything is fine - first time shader compiling up to 10min. Entering second time in game, CS compiles shaders again...Well, something is wrong. As their discord support is terrible and I couldn't find answer in reddit, trying to get some solution here. Maybe someone encountered this problem and knows what to do. Using Mod Organizer 2, have ShaderCache folder in overwrite...

This is the LE section but assuming you are using SE:

Oh, I'm sorry if I posted in wrong place my problem...

I'm on GOG 1.1.1179 (AE).

Actually I don't know. When I installed SC and related mods to it, SC generated that folder in overwrite by default. And there wasn't kinda additional info how or where.

Well as a general rule you shouldn't leave stuff in your overwrite.

To be honest it is so long ago since I installed CS that I don't remember the details such as why I put the Shaders folders where I did. Maybe I watched a YT vid? 🤔

Hmm. I'll try to find something useful in YT. But it's kinda weird tho - even in CS Discord nobody can help to solve this...

The shadercache works just fine in overwrite. Try deleting the cache in overwrite\shadercache, deactivate half of the CS add-ons and recompile. See if this behavior keeps occurring, if need be go to CS only and try that and then add plugins over time. Perhaps you have a mismatch thats causing issues. The plugins need to match the CS version. Normally, CS deactivates incompatible plugins but who knows. For example, I haven't updated CS to the latest version because it breaks some other unrelated plugins like the old upscaler.

Most things do but it is not good practise. What I'm wondering is where or how I get CS to look to the location of the Shader Cache folder.

Sure, but until it works there is no point moving it. Shaders are stored in Data/ShaderCache thats hardcoded afaik. Have you activated "enable disk cache" setting @deff.

Actually I don't like if some files are staying in kinda undefined folder like overwrite...And I tried to make ShaderCache as mod, but it greyed out with "no valid data".

@plutocene yes, it's activated. At the moment I don't know how, but I get CS at least not recompiling shaders after every game launch...I just removed all CS related mods and added them one more time. Now Community Shaders compile shaders only once. So far so good, but new problem occur. Kinda weird, but "hey, at least some picture!" It caused by Community Shaders, because after disabling all shaders in CS menu, it's reverting back to vanilla...In spoiler modlist + screenshot. It looks like kinda ash or something like that...Will check if "light limit fix" is enabled

Well thats not exactly right. Have you tried running and compiling CS on its own and see if that works? If the result is still not ok, you have to investigate CS and the requirements.

Found the "problem". In shader Light limit fix "Enable light visualisation" box was checked. And CS not re-compiling shaders after new game launch (this is weird, because I simply removed/reinstalled same mods).

A couple of points.

Add-ons for CS sometimes get built into CS and become redundant. Finding out if an add-on has or hasn't been integrated can be a pain.

True Light may be one of these. See the posts page on Nexus.
