SE or AE for sex mods?

New pc. I can't find the old version of AE i used to use, meaning that my backed up mods are scuffed now.

If I need to download everything again, I could just move back to SE and never have to worry about a new update ever again. Plus the game wouldn't randomly crash anymore.

Is SE good for the smaller newer sex mods? I know that popular mods are compatible for both versions.

Bonus: I remember using a new script engine, not nemesys or fnis, something else. The name is at the tip of my tongue but for those who didn't drink 8 beers and can actually think, what was it? And is it compatible for SE? I remember the maker of that engine making it compatible with sex mods, even the animal ones.

You can do this at any version.

Most crashes are caused by mods, not game version alone though.

Pandora. Should work regardless of game version because it only patches behavior and animation files, which aren't the type of files causing incompatibility issues between versions.

AE is only for the content you download by "upgrading" your game, an absurd, consumerist tactic from the new Bugthesda (frankly, I wasn't surprised by their recent ridiculous move with FO4 at all). Only versions 1.6.1170 matter here; it's the latest version of SE and it's still SE. What they call AE is the extra expense you'll have to make to get the content from the so-called Creation Club CC (some call it the Crap Club), and that doesn't affect the sex mods at all because all those CC mods are separate mods, not really a part of the base game. And frankly, you're not missing out on anything. I'm one of those who decided to make the jump to AE and honestly, I didn't find anything refreshing about it, those player homes are lame (free modders fix them again). The same repetitive quests as usual, and they didn't even launch them with dialogue, just a "take this note and piss off", etc. I'm using 1.6.1170 and the mods I use work fine. Pandora, combat animations, sex animations, creature animations—everything's good. Yes, updating all the mods took me about 4-5 days, but everything works fine now. This site has beginner's guides if you want to start your own modding journey, or you can get modpacks/collections if you're feeling brave enough. Good luck!

It's not so much about XXX-mods. You want to looks at the ecosystem as a whole. Consider questions like these:

  • Which CC mods available?
  • Which body mods / physics mods are available?
  • Which clothing mods are available?
  • Which UI mods are available?
  • etc

Because just the scripted frameworks are not going to make sense if the surroundings are barebone vanilla. You don't want to invoke any XXX stuff with vanilla unmodded faces and models (or - hey, maybe you do, no judgement, though that would be .. unique)
