Sharing my thoughts on AAF after being away from Fallout 4 for two years

I got back into Fallout 4 recently, and I decided to try out sex mods, which is not something I really explored before. I was able to get Nuka Ride and Commonwealth Slavers functioning, though with animation issues here and there, stuff like erections not showing up, or penetration mechanics that don't fire every time. Through all of it, the one thing that has stood out to me is how convoluted and messy the installation process for AAF is. There is one version of the AAF framework, but then there are countless animations for humans, robots, and creatures, but then there are also patches for all of those animations, then some of the patches are outdated, but don't always say that, then there are patches for the patches, and then some of the animations require assets made by other creators... my point is, it is a confusing mess spread out across an entire forum topic, unlike something like SexLab for Skyrim which is a lot more organized, or Wicked Whims for the Sims 4, which is also a lot more organized. It's as if AAF was never really able to get its shit together, it's as if it has struggled to find a solid identity; if that makes sense? A framework was made, and then people started slapping things onto it, but then each person had their own methodology for doing things, that's the way it feels. This is bad because nothing appears to be standardized, which is what makes AAF an absolutely confusing mess to install.

 

I have no idea what is current, or the best, or broken, or whatever. Even the "AAF TFM" post seems to be outdated in some ways, as well as UAP, which is not only outdated in some ways, apparently, but is also incomplete.

 

When AAF actually works, it's great. I just wish there was an up-to-date file with everything preinstalled, that you could then add assets and animations to as needed, but nothing like that seems to exist in any kind of complete form. I have found posts that seem to make the attempt, but then adding stuff later seems to hose the installation of AAF, and you end up with things that worked before that are suddenly NOT working anymore, while things you were trying to fix DO work.

 

Anyway, that has been my experience, so far. I'm honestly kind of impressed that I have gotten it to work, at all.

At least you got everything to work. From the early beginning of my modding I'm struggling with flaccid "things" stuff on BodyTalk. And I'm 100% percent sure that my modlist is correct and everything should work...but as usual in new game everything is fine but later erection dissapear and all this shit is like "yeah, here we go again!" It's annoying...

 

For me it's not a problem to get AAF setup, because I have done it several times...but yes, it's tricky when you haven't done that before...For some animations vagina bones is not working (Leito animations, Rohzima anims and some others) That's why you need to use SAM enhanced animations, which overwrites adjustments. Alignment is shitty for some animations as well...it is as it is. I wish there could be solution for erection problems, but...That's why I switched to NAF. But there are other problems as well...

And to add the op's experience on top of how clunky Fallout 4 is in general because of it's geriatric engine can can only barely support itself, well, you come up with a very frustrating experience. I love the fallout games. I love the fps in a post-apocalyptic world setting. But I don't like random crashes, bad frame rates, textures not loading, THE WORLD NOT LOADING, stutters so bad the game crashes and then ALL THE FRUSTRATION OF TRYING TO GET ANY AAF MODS TO WORK. It just makes for a pretty punishing and brutal experience. I still play the game but it is pretty infrequent and I am nearly always distracted by some other game that is better to play.

There's a mod on here called Universal Stiffener, it has a hotkey you can set up in the MCM that allow you to "kick" erections into being, if or  when the automatic of US script fails to do its thing. I'm not sure if you've tried that patch or not, but I haven't had that issue anymore since installing it.

I haven't tried this mod yet. Looks like that I need to test it...
