Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi, i am setting up a new build for skyrim AE and i am encountering an issue with graphical mods or ENB. It seems to affect only snow and surfaces covered with snow.

Considering ENB can be disabled in less than 5 seconds using it's in-game menu, it seems silly to me to have it enabled for a problem like this. Toggle it off, see if the problem changes any.

Yeah, you're right, i shouldn't have written ''or enb''; turning it off didn't solve it. I think it's most definitely mod related. I fiddled around with dyndolod and now the ground is more or less ok, but the rocks still remain like this:  https://freeimage.host/i/KLw8qml

Is the problem the glowing rocks, boulders and tree trunks, or the dark rocks and boulders? If it's the dark ones, then that's a problem with DynDOLOD most likely. If it's the glowing ones, then you have a snow shader mod turned up to 11.

So:

  • If it's the former, disable DynDOLOD output and test again.
  • If it's the latter, install More Informative Console. Open the console and select a glowing rock, boulder or tree. Use MIC to find its form id. Inspect its DNAM Material in xEdit: which mod provides it, how does its values compare to vanilla shaders.

Yeah, the problems are both of these.

Regarding the first one: i tried disabling dyndolod but the problem is still there

Regarding the latter: i initially thought it was caused by ENB because by turning off the ''detailed shadows'' effect they went back to normal, but after rerunning xLodGen, Texgen and Dyndolod that no longer happens even with that effect disabled. I tried doing what you said and the result is in the attached screenshot. I assume Majestic Mountains is the culprit, but i really don't understand what is wrong with it

DynDOLOD.esp undoes the changes made by "Parallax TXST ... Mountains.esp". So at least for this specific record, it is not Majestic Mountains.

Follow that MATO record and you'll find settings and the mesh file name. See if any mods alter this, and query your mod manager for the mod that provides the shader mesh.

Ahem sorry, what do you mean with MATO record? The one marked red in the ''Material'' line? And how exactly do i follow it?

Sorry, i never messed too much with xedit :/

Expand the dyndolod column, and you'll see.

Easiest way, hold Ctrl while clicking on it.

When in doubt: Remove the mod currently providing a record you suspect is related, or normalize the values in that mod by dragging vanilla values over from the plugin that originally provided the value. What is a single pass color in a MATO record? No idea, but I see the thing in your screenshot is brighter than it should be, and I see higher values in the plugin. Seems plausible that higher values = bad.

If those values are RGB values then is not 255/255/255 white? I'd drag the 235 and 245 from Atlantean over to the Majestic. Easy enough to revert if it doesn't help.

Actually, i tried rerunning Dyndolod because i found out that some settings were wrong, and now i don't have the Dyndolod.esp column anymore in xedit :/

Atlantean Landscape is setting high values in the MATO record as well, don't blindly follow DynDOLOD.
