User13 Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Ok, so I've finally purchased Dawnguard and rescued Serana and got her home. I've accepted her father's invitation to become a vampire, woke up, had my brief instruction on Vamp Lord form and all that fun stuff. Then he tells me to go talk to some guy and tell him, 'it's time'. So, I go to the guy. Apparently you can't talk to people when you're in Vamp Lord form (or maybe it's just me). So I revert form back to my little elfy self. Now he tells me that mortals shouldn't be walking around the castle. Other people tell me that I should be ashamed for spurning the gift and go talk to Harkon to 'rectify the situation.' So basically when I'm getting from all this is that I'm bugged and when not in vamp lord form these people don't see me as one of them, but I'm unable to continue because I can't speak while in vamp form. I did talk to Harkon, btw, and he just treated me as if nothing had changed, giving me options to ask about what I should know as a vamp, etc. Oh, on a side note, when I went to talk to the quest guy and he wasn't recognizing me as an elf, I went into vamp lord form, and he immediately attacked me. Is that some sort of attack? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Note - also posted this on Nexus Mods, but they get pretty hinky about people using Cots (hypocrites) and I figure someone may ask me there what mods I'm using so I'd much rather have an answer from here, but sorta figured there might be more people online over there.
TheDriedFinger Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 When something is that screwed up, it seems as if a script ran half-way and was somehow interrupted, so nothing you do in-game can rectify the situation. As far as I know, you just have to revert to an older save. If the problem persists, it might bean issue with a mod or with your specific save game. Forget what I said; no idea what I'm talking about. Also, last time I checked, the Nexus Forums is pretty much dead. You're much better off getting help her or on the official BethSoft forums.
pantherlux Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 had that glitch/bug once.. breton race i guess it was, i just added myself to the vampire faction by console codes i think it was player.setrace bretonracevampire or it was set PlayerIsVampire to 1 i cant remember for sure, try the last one first, safe before that check it, if its not working, reload and try the other one hope this helps.. btw: did you used showracemenu once? that broke it for me one time as a nord
ratrace Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 player.setrace bretonracevampire That's it. It's a common bug, a typical Bethesda fuckup that came shipped with the horribly screwed up Dawnguard. Use the console to switch between vampire and non-vampire as pantherlux explained.

Ah, Cots. I assume you have the vampire script fix for cots? It can actually be a bug on the mod's end btw, seeing as cots wasn't supported out-of-the-box for becoming a vampire. You might want to ask ask in the cots thread or something. Also, are you using cots or the revised RCOTS version?

Also, the Rcots race name might be different from the Cots race name and the script might not be working because you have the cots .esp further down the load order, thus overriding the rcots races. Not sure why else it wouldn't work.

The rcots boy toon was a bit too cartoony for my liking. I was told there was no problem running them both together so... Maybe I should bite the bullet and delete Cots?

All I know is that there's no inherent vampire support so someone came up with a vampire script fix for the race. Whatever problems you have with cots and vampires are based on that simple fact that vampirism is not supported out of the box for this race yet.
User13 Posted January 22, 2014 Author Posted January 22, 2014 Ok, going in a different direction now. I've been using MO, and so I've taken advantage of it's profile feature to create 2 different profiles, one for my boy toon who uses Cots and one for my girl vamp toon who uses Rcots. For the girl, I'm attempting to run thru the vampire initiation again to see if it works without Cots loading. If not, I'll use 'showracemenu' to choose the appropriate vampire race (I checked and they are there). However... when I logged on to her latest save, her hands seem to be missing It's just her hands. Everything else is fine. You can see her hands, but it's just a glowy outline, like she was wearing glow in the dark gloves or something. Tried playing around with the load order. Any ideas? Edit - Just an added note. I'm still playing around with the load order to fix the hand issue, but while I was doing that I noticed something else. Since I've dropped Cots for just pure Rcots, the breasts on my girl toon have shrunk. She's very nearly pre-pubescent at this point. Neither here nor there, just thought it worth mentioning.

Check that the RCOTS mod is installed correctly and also check MO whether a mod overwrites an rcots resource. Also make sure the femalehand nif files are installed in the correct directory. Does that happen nude or with armor on?

Not familiar enough yet with MO to figure all that out, but I'll apply myself and see what I come up with for my efforts. The hand is gone (or glowy if you prefer) both nude and with armor on.

I asked cause sometimes, missing armor pieces can cause the hands to disappear. Can you get a screenshot with that glowy hand thing?
User13 Posted January 22, 2014 Author Posted January 22, 2014 Bob, I switched around the load order a few times and whatever I did managed to fix it. Now if I just knew what that was
bob11 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 When there's a load order problem like that, it usually affects more than your character. I'd expect the child npcs to have identical issues if there was something overwritting changes on children npcs along with cots PC.
User13 Posted January 23, 2014 Author Posted January 23, 2014 Well, no more missing hand, but I've managed to come up with 2 new vampire problems. Leave it to me, huh? The first is a visual problem. On occasion I'll find my body breaking out in black squares until my entire body, minus head, hands and feet, is black. If I zoom in it becomes patchy, but still there. The other is a feeding issue. I've invaded the hideout where the Moth Priest has been taken. Killed everyone, released him. It says to use vamp seduction to make him docile, which I did with no problem. Then it says feed on him to make him your thrall. Well, I couldn't figure out how to do that. I'm not given an option for that, either in Vamp Lord form or regular form (I tried feeding on a sleeping person in Dragon's Bridge as well, without success. The feed option wasn't there). When switching back to Vamp Lord form after trying to sneak feed in regular form Selana became agitated and attacked the priest. When his health got down low I tried talking to him and I was given the option to either talk to him, or force feed. I fed. Nothing happened tho. I mean, I got the feeding graphic, and I got points towards bein a vamp lord and all, it even said that he was my slave now and would follow my orders, or something, but questwise, it still says I need to feed on him. On a side note, I tried downloading a patch off Nexus Mods to help. Called Better Vampires 6.5. That seemed to fix the visual bug (at least for now). It ran me thru all sorts of options to better define my life as a vamp. All very cool, but quest is still telling me to feed. So I'm stuck. I loaded the Better Vamp mod after this vamp patch in MO, I'm about to switch the order of the 2 and see what happens then, but I don't hold out much hope. Oh, and on a completely separate, although slightly related note - would it be possible for someone to provide a little patch which would change the size of vamp lord form for Rcots kids? I've gotten over the part about being ugly. I'm a vamp, I can take the good with the bad. However, it's stretching my credulity that in vamp lord form I grow an extra 3 feet taller. Having a mini vamp lord form would be much better.
User13 Posted January 24, 2014 Author Posted January 24, 2014 Still no advances here. Anyone have any suggestions which will allow me to feed, or have the DG quest recognize that I've fed?
myuhinny Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Which COTS version did you download the NMM one for COTS or one of the other ones? If you downloaded the one of the other COTS file and all you did was install it through the mod manager that would be your mistake right there as only 1 of the 8 downloads for the COTS race is NMM ready meaning if downloaded one of the other ones you have to unzip it and manually install the folders that you want and place them where they need to be. There are many folders in that rar one for dawnguard hearthfire xvision and so forth. I haven't used the COTS for awhile but that is the way it has been for awhile now not sure if it was ever changed or not.

In order for MO to go right to the Data folder, which it really likes to do, I separated out each addon and optional mod into it's own individual archive. I've loaded the Cots vamp patch. I've also loaded something called Better Vampires, after I was already having issues, hoping it would fix some of them. It didn't, but it's a cool mod so I kept it. Just wish I could get past this feeding issue, because I'm essentially stuck, unable to progress the storyline.

I think they both try to overwrite the same script so in essence only one is used.

SetStage <quest id> <stage value>. I've never tried with the Dawnguard questline though, it may CTD your game depending on how heavy the problem was to begin with, or simply end all the Dawnguard quest all together. Try to save and enter the command line. PS : Your issue could as well come from a glitch that was here when the DLC came out. That means a vanilla issue unrelated to COS. Here is the full command : setstage DLC1VQ03Vampire 70.
