The last laptop I bought was an Acer and I am staying the heck away from that brand as the battery only lasted two hours on performance mode.. doing nothing. If anyone has any suggestions, that'd be awesome. Thought I'd try my luck here with asking this question. What I'm Looking For: 11-13"Price Range of around 1k (preferably under) No Touch Screen

Just sayin'....What are you doing in relation to school? Because if it's just basic stuff go and find a good deal on almost anything. I have one laptop I picked up on a clearance at WalMart (Compaq) that was more than enough for most kids' school stuff and I got that for under $300. It has a 2.4 processor, 320gb hdd, 2gb of RAM (and I stuck another 2 in it) and it has a 15" screen plus had W7 Home Premium on it. That thing will do most anything you'd need for school. My point is that there are TONS of choices well under your budget limit that should work. Just find something with the features you want. PS: I used to have an Acer that was a very dependable tool. But I broke it eventually.

Most laptops I've seen have kept their battery up for about four hours or longer, but the one I have now is.. two hours, maybe less depending on what I'm doing. Which is not good for school at all since sometimes I won't be able to charge it. I've already had the laptop replaced (within two weeks of owning it) with the almost same model from Acer and it still happens. Maybe it's just me. For schooling I'll be going for nursing. The problem I find is a lot of them are touch, too big, etc. Q_Q I'm thinking I may have to go for bigger though.
prideslayer Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I'm a big fan of Thinkpads, only laptops I'll buy. The L's are easily within your budget but good luck finding one with a screen that small. Netbooks tried that.. and died. Tablets are mostly filling that niche now.

Oh, I didn't even look at the Thinkpads.. thank you for that! As for the size.. yeah. There are a couple with screens that small but they're a lot more expensive.

But keep in mind that most laptop batteries will lose around 30% of their capacity per year so in three years they're basically dead anyway. The Compaq I mentioned would last for a bit over 4 on power save and surfing the 'net. Now it lasts an hour and a half top after a couple years. Be sure to fully discharge your battery at least once a month to keep it going as long as possible. I think you just need to do some shopping. You're not opposed to that, are you?

A bit over the budget, but for a quality one that should last a while, I can fork it over. Thank you for the help and the suggestions!
