Who wants to help me with a less stressful lower crashing fps optimized oblivion?

Hey there folks on loverslab its block2001 here again. So previously I had issues with ai overload which has been fixed thanks to the awesome help of the people out there I just want to say thank you once again. Ok but now I have a brand new bag of worms and one that is quite common to many people which is constant oblivion crashing. I for one am extremely pissed off with this because now my game is practically unplayable because of this issue so I am pleading with everyone out there who has more sense than me (which I'm sure is most of you)to help out a fellow gamer...

I seriously thought that my computer would be able to run oblivion noo problem considering it is much better than my old cpu wich ran on XP. even tried yelling at my computer and talking sweet to it too but to no avail...Anyhoo any help would be appreciated you tell me what to do and I'll do it thanks in advance everyone

Edit- I know I have a whole lotta mods running which may also be a problem (probably is) maybe there are some which i can combine as well idk I'm just speculating here...ok enuff rambling I'll leave it to those that know what they are talking about

I recently had an issue with my game crashing every 5-30 minutes and I had all of the same core game utilities that you listed.

What worked for me was deleting all of my display drivers with a "Driver Cleaner" in safe mode, then reinstalling the latest drivers in normal windows.

Then after that, I saved a copy of my load order in OBMM (for restoring order later) and copied my data folder and Saves folder to another location.

I then uninstalled Oblivion and rebooted. When I came back into windows-7 I installed oblivion to an alternate game folder location outside of "Program Files" and gave it full permissions/access. One thing you HAVE to watch out for when doing this is you HAVE to go into your "My Documents/my games" folder and delete the "Oblivion" folder!

The reason for this is because the uninstall process doesn't delete it and the oblivion.ini contained in that folder will not go along with your new installation of oblivion. The game will crash at startup if you do not delete this folder!

After deleting the "My Documents/my games/Oblivion" folder and reinstalling Oblivion, I copied my data folder to my newly located Oblivion folder and reinstalled OBMM, OBSE, TES-CS and BOSS. I then patched the Oblivion.exe with the "ShiveringIsles update 1.2.416" to make sure everything was up to the latest version of the game.

After doing all of that and running the launcher, it rescanned my videocard and drivers and set everything on high. Upon starting the game it made it past the initial screens and I could start a new game...everything worked.

After closing out of it, I copied my old saves to the new save folder location and then opened up OBMM and imported my load order from before.

Restarted the game and opened up my latest save and picked up right were I left off at with NO LAG, NO STUTTERING, FULL HIGH GRAPHICS and all my mods WORKING PROPERLY!

Well, as you are probably aware the shear number of mods you are running is going to be problematic for oblivion as it is a CPU driven game. You have so many mods that contain scripts that it is bottle-necking things for you.

You need to take a serious look at what each mod adds to you game and whether those features are worth the hit. Now I really can't do anything more than point out examples because my opinions/tastes are probably quite different from yours so what I can live with/without might be not be to your liking.

Examples of things that have either have competeting features or functions:

1. CM partners mods vs MCS/2chan lives. Both are adding npc's to the game world (2chan lives plus its addons has 300+ and firefly's one for cm partners has even more than that if I remember right). Do you really need that many people in your game world. Each one you have adds scripts that run. The shear combo of those scripts for just npc's alone can cause problems. Also some of the more intense partners mods can cause even more strain and potential for conflict.

2. Magic - you have quite a few magic impacting mods. See which ones you may be able to live without. Many have conflicting scripts or features.

3. You have a number of play it through and disable it mods - these should not be a permanent part of your load order. Examples - Underdark, hentaimania 2 (this effects the game world much more than the 1st game as the first one mostly adds npc's to the dungeons/ruins and so on), GTA 1 & 2, Curse of Hircine, Sundered Keep and so on.

4. You have numerous stat adjustment mods - Frans make huge changes and then you have Quest Award Leveler, More Realistic Encumbrance, SM Spell Leveling, Oblivion XP, SDR Perks And Patches - Oblivion, Toaster's Legendary Skills & Stats, Toaster's Legendary Mastery, just to name a few. Consider paring down and/or combining things or flat out compromising.

5. Unnecessary things - DuplicateItemSpell (the console works fine for this and doesn't take up an esp slot - note excessive use of either this mod or the console duplicating things can lead to save game bloat), Enhanced Grabbing (if this is for bodies - renguardoverhaul has a deal built into it) - is this really required?

6. Unnecessary duplicates: _Ren_BeautyPack_onlyhairs.esp and _Ren_BeautyPack_full.esp (full has the hair included - and why aren't these merged into the bashed patch and disabled?). There may be others like this like: IDKRRR_C_race.esp and IDKRRR_C_race_closed_mouth_version.esp - check each one out via the readme's to see if both are required or just picking one.

7. Lovers and sexdarkness - not a good idea to run both.

Again, this list is not meant to do anything other than stimulate you to closely review each and every mod you have and help you sort them into categories:

1. Must have mods

2. Play through and disable

3. Crap you don't need - delete.

4. Stuff to merge into must have mods/bashed patch/custom esp.

Don't feel any need to respond to any of the items I listed above or defend yourself or mod selection.

How would I go about merging mods like Ren Beauty pack because Wrye Bash will not recognize it as mergable

I'm wondering if you still need Ren's beauty pack at all if you have MBP installed.

Also, what Gregathit said about NPC mods is especially true with CM partners. Each CM has a pretty hefty script attached, which normally runs every frame, regardless of whether the CM is in your party or not. Some of the heavier calculations may not run, but it still goes through every line of the script each frame, since it is not optimised. For my own version I have made some edits to the script to make it more efficient for CM's not in my party, but normally, the more CM's, the bigger the impact.

Edit - Also, is this on a new save or the same one from before you disabled a stack of mods?

Note: Be careful about merging any mods that have scripts in them as you can break the scripts. Clothing/armor/weapons mods for the most part are no problem.

As for Ren's Beauty pack - as EvenstarGW pointed out you may not need it as MBP should cover it. If you do end up needing it see if you can just use the one esp and not both.

Ok so far I have removed a lot of unnessesary mods thanks to the advice of gregathit so far in total I have removed about 30 or so mods including CM partners and some quest mods that I havent really gotten around to. I am starting to see improvements in terms of fps though by not a lot it is good to see some progress, crashes are still hapening often but i'm getting there

Here's another question. The purge cell buffers on ... mods, won't they conflict with Streamline? Streamline already does PCB's on several occasions, which can be set up through its ini and ingame menu.

I think TIE alone may conflict with some of those overhauls. There may be a patch (I know there's a few for FCOM) but I'd go check.

Also, companion mods are processing heavy so if you can you may want to cut down.

Feudal Empire 300 is a buggy when with RGO and overhauls (iirc it changes the guards), so I'd advise against keeping it in your load order.

Double check that you have all the little requirements for the mods (Algohol or whatever for fearsome and so on), I know from experience its way to easy to miss one.

Any particular pattern to your crashes? What does the Windows crash reports say?

I don't know if your crashes has the same causes as mine, so what I say below might not work for you, but recently I fixed many of my crashing problems by editing sr_Oblivion_Stutter_Remover.ini

Specifically I think I changed some values under "Master" and "Heap" sections. I think that's all I did, but the whole thing is here so you can check...

For a long time I had pretty frequent (about 30% of the time) crashes mostly when entering intensive cells, like IC Waterfront with Better Cities (FPS patch didn't help much), or even entering Market District (again with Better Cities) from City Isle, or just random crashes transiting cells. These crashes do not occur at all anymore, even though FPS is still very low in some places like IC Waterfront.

I have identical OBSE plugins, 4GB switch, and almost identical hardware as block2001 (with GTX 260)

Regarding number of mods, my largest Wrye Bash profile has 95 esm+esp's enabled, so it's not 100% crash prove (don't think that's possible anyways), but I'm happy with the stability now

Good news is increased fps and not soo much stutter. However it is still crashing frequently although not as quickly as before. Also now I am getting the symptoms of AI overload and the npcs dont do much of anything, which makes no sense to me because it was working before and from then all I have been doing was removing script intensive mods...

block did you rebuild your bashed patch? sometimes removing intensive scripted mods can destroy parts of the ai not sure if it's the issue just curious (my mind is kinda sleepy after fixing another bug with my new omod ^^)

I rebuilt the patch and everything...its actually really annoying because now oblivion is actually really playable with little lag and even less crashes but now this AI is acting up...damn my luck
